Message 1614720 - Posted: 16 Dec 2014, 15:21:53 UTC - in response to Message 1614713.

Denmark has become the first country to lay formal claim over part of the North Pole as the jostling over sovereignty in the Arctic heats up.

The move is likely to put Denmark in conflict with other countries which also lay claim to parts of the potentially resource-rich Arctic including Canada, Russia and the US. Canada said last year it would make a claim over the North Pole but is still gathering data to support a submission.

But this year diplomats have fretted that relations in the Arctic could become contaminated by the fallout from Russia’s invasion of Crimea and more assertive foreign policy. Russia is increasing its military presence in the Arctic by building new bases while it is touting the potential for a new shipping route over its northern coastline.

Unfortunately - He who has the most guns - Wins.
International Law is dying. The Policeman is fading away.

True. And the UN is dying. They are awfully quiet these Days.

The UN's Power, and International Law, was basically supported by the Economic and Military Power of The USA.

Didn't know that.
But that could explain why Russia are so agressive towards Scandinavia.
They also dont want Sweden and Finland to join NATO but russian behavior now almost make us to join them.

ALL Law need a Policeman.
The Western World has been living within The American Empire since 1945.
Akin to The Roman Empire, greatly Influenced by Greece (Western Europe).
The above was stated repeatedly by Churchill. Starting with his 4 volume 'A History of the English Speaking Peoples' (1930).
Much truth.

The American Empire:)
Yes very much like the Roman Empire.
Pax Romana sometimes called Pax Augusta comes to my mind.

On Tuesday the Russian economy saw a jump of 25% in its inflation rate which have been brought about by world wide sanctions and a huge drop in oil prices over the Ukraine crisis.

http://www.dailytech.com/Apple+Abandons+Russia+Ruinous+Ruble+Run+Sees+25+Inflation+in+a+Single+Day/article37003.htm

Apple has now halted sales there and Vlad's political rivals are also gathering quite a lot of public support instead of being beaten down and harassed by state police.

Cheers.

Has what happened at the time of the Berlin wall crumbling come again? Perhaps with more intensity? Will Mother Russia be the next country begging at the IMF trough?

Now there's the wildcard, as Putin certainly isn't Gorbachev sadly.

Gorbachev was saying the Ukraine crisis offered an “excuse” for the US to victimise Russia: “I am absolutely convinced that Putin protects Russia’s interests better than anyone else.”

And they both share this idea that Crimea is Russian for historical reasons.
Yes. Deport all Crimean Tatars to Siberia:(

Russia's ambassador in Denmark has its own explanation of why Swedish authorities were outraged that a Russian reconnaissance plane last week almost collided with a passenger plane between Malmö and Copenhagen:
"They've smoked too much cannabis".

I would say that russian military pilots should stop drink vodka when flying into civilian air corridors with heavy traffic.

NATO starts a war with the Russian Federation?!

The present report on how Russia's economy devastated by sanctions and the ruble is falling at a rate compared to the dollar on the amount of stock held by artificially, which in fact does not have any real value, they are just preparing for a huge provocation, which will probably be against the Ukrainian army used a nuclear weapon and throws it to Russia.

Russia just can't keep on printing out rubles without collateral to back them up as they presently are. That's why inflation over there is going through the roof as the economy will just collapse hard if it doesn't stop.

Is peace and leaving another country alone worth that cost?

Cheers.

The Polish author wrote - "An attempt to kill the ruble - how it works?"
---------------------------------------------------
Stupid delight, full of joy about a fall of Russian ruble, cannot replace understanding of what is happening in the world.
...
Russia has very low debt (less than 10% of GDP) and substantial foreign exchange reserves, which is able for many months to face low prices of crude oil, as well as low prices will not be able to sustain itself indefinitely, because it hit the US economy as well and the American banking system.

A Holy War?

You don't want to see a main thing - not Russian troops there but the volunteers only.

Sadly true.
http://www.globalresearch.ca/poland-must-rediscover-its-anti-fascist-voice-how-the-ukraine-crisis-affects-poland/5384525
The Polish government should also beware of the threat that the far-right poses at home. Presently, the far-right remains an isolated force, unable to find an independent space in a political scene dominated by two parties from the conservative right. However, they have become increasingly visible on the streets, not least when tens of thousands attend the annual Independence Day march in Warsaw. The majority of these demonstrators may not be fascists, but they are led by a strong core of supporters of far-right organisations in collusion with groups of football hooligans.

With the west remaining largely silent on the rise of fascism in Ukraine, a strong anti-fascist voice is urgently needed from Poland

One more REAL issue - the Ukrainians who now glorify the Bandera and UPA nazis as the national heroes officially.

LOL.
Christopher Booker is a columnist for the Sunday Telegraph in the UK.
He is an anti-science crank with a range and depth quite astonishing for a journalist.
Booker is a creationist of the Intelligent Design variety.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Booker
His reason to write the article is because he's anti EU.
