Now that I'm 65 and facing the reality of my departure from this world I got to thinking about serious matters?? First I'm thinking about what major world event would I like to see happen before I'm out of here. After some consideration I think it would be contact with ET in some form or other. Second, what world event do I hope won't happen until I'm long dead and buried. There are a lot of candidates but I'll stick with one we can't prevent which would be a serious asteroid or comet strike. Anybody else want to tackle this one? You're relatively young, Bob....no need for fatalistic thinking. Yes I think we'll make contact soon |

Don't worry, I don't expect either event to happen within my lifespan along with many others I considered like on the I would like to see side, a cure for cancer and other major diseases, significant increases in longevity etc. On the I hope it doesn't happen side, a massive CME that sends us back to the 19th century, or a super volcano eruption. But they are all possible events over the next 20 years. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. I'll chip in, Bob. Am 78, and don't think I've reached the end of the conveyor belt, yet. Relax, and enjoy the ride. |

Im 62. Id love to see a mission land on Mars. I was just a teen when we landed on the moon. I watched it live. Really want to see it live on Mars. Id hate to see another Cold war start up. Im seeing the signs of it now. We hate you because you are doing this so we will bolster this country you have issues with. Another proxy war. Wasnt 50 plus years enough? [/quote] Old James |

My Uncle fought with Gen. Patton, and briefly described some of what he saw. Horrible, as we now know. And, yet, it seems that every generation has to deal with psychopaths who want to rule the world. Maybe, in Brave New World, they won't make it out of the test tubes. |

I'm 51 years old. I think it is highly probable that within my lifetime I will see a cure for some of the "easier" progressive neurological conditions, for example Parkinson's Disease. (Of course I want world peace, who wouldn't.. but a cure for Parkinson's is probably quite close and world peace seems light years away.) Ever since we mapped the human genome, amazing things keep happening in medical genetics. Finding the key to a condition that is poly-genetic, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, will probably not happen in my lifetime, but then again - who knows???? Anyway, tackling something like Parkinson's Disease seems realistic in the next 20 to 30 years. What I REALLY want to see is for our species to have excellent success willingly controlling our population. We are far too successful a species. Whenever somebody comes on tv and tells me to recycle (I do), drive a hybrid (I do) and put in a solar system (we are - this coming March), I want to scream at the tv "...but what about population control?" Anyway, things I do NOT want to see, but that will probably happen in my life - more detrimental effects of global climate change as coastlines rise, island nations disappear, animals species become extinct and resources become more scare. |

Good Lord man, I'm 70 on Boxing day, and I ain't planning to pop my cloggs any time just yet! (sorry if certain people will be disappointed). ET in my lifetime just won't happen, neither will man on Mars, nor peace on earth, as much as I would like them to, so lets try and be realistic. Man on Mars? Scheduled for 2021 by NASA, the rocket and capsule were tested successfully yesterday, up 3600 miles(15 times as far as the ISS I've read) and back to a splash down, just like in the Apollo days... Oh and I'm 54... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Can't speak for the rest of the world... but it was their preference for baby boys whatever the human cost that most got up my nose. That's come back to bite them on the bottom big time :/ While I'm here... I have to plus at least 1000 Angela's post! :) Nice thread too! Thanks Bob :) |

Bit controversial for the cafe? I hope not... but I was really happy to see that Uraguay is willing to accept some GITMO inmates, and that the people support it too. Was beginning to think something like that would not happen in my lifetime. |

Timing seems to be important. Gorbachev knew that -- and, down came the wall. |
