Can we set different pc's so that the kind of tasks they crunch will differ according to whether they are set up as work, home or school in preferences? I presume this is a very fundamental question but one I don't know the answer to. I ran across it at another project and was wondering if it also applied to seti. merle - vote yes for freedom of speech |

In fact there are 4 venues to choose from for standard BOINC projects. The default one. Listed as "---" or blank depending on where you are viewing things. I use the project preferences for this kind of configuration. Default: MB only, CPU & NVIDIA GPU Home: AP only, CPU & ATI GPU School: AP & MB, CPU Only Work: AP only, CPU only The BOINC Computing preferences are global across all projects. So if you change it at one project the settings will get copied to all of the others, in time. That's great guys thanks. It turns out that I have one machine that is better for one project while another is better for another project and a third which should be doing a little of both. I assume, of course, that working across two projects also works with this method. Correct, just to be certain? merle - vote yes for freedom of speech |

You can set one host to say default at one project, say Seti, have it use the default Computing preferences from here, have it at home at another project, school at a third project, and work at a fourth (althrough I try and keep hosts at the same location across projects for ease), and set each of the different project preferences to supply a different set of work.
