Strange. Don't the US know its own history?
Have anyone there met a Native American?

I have but that maybe doesnt count because they are from South America.
One is of course Fernando From Bolivia who I worked with for many years.
He came to Europe first to Bulgaria or Russia, I don't remember, but sooner to Sweden.
An other was from Chile and he told me is was a real Indian.
I asked him. "How do you know?"
He says "I feel it"

I have had several friends from this group of people, and many more acquaintances.

I am just shy of 1/4 Native American, myself, from 2 different tribes, the Cherokee and the Ndendahe (Chiricahua).

BTW: They appear, because of their Casino's, to be wealthier than their 'Conquerors'.

Not every reserve has a Casino on it. In fact a lot of tribes have lost the rights to their natural resources. Then of course there is the tragedy of the residential schools where they had their children forcibly taken from them and educated in institutions where they suffered physical, sexual and emotional abuse. That is a legacy that will take generations to undo. The children were beaten if they spoke their own language so they lost their people's knowledge of how to live on the land. In some of these schools experiments were performed on the children in malnutrition. Yes, that's right, the children were starved to see what the effect would be on them.

In Canada, native education is under the control of the federal government. Until fairly recently they were not allowed to be educated beyond a grade 8 level. The band schools still receive far less funding than the regular schools, thus perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

Also, try to remember that all the tribes and bands are as different as all the countries in Europe. You cannot simply say that because your local tribe is one way that all tribes are that way.

I see the pundits are now claiming it wasn't racist. How far their heads are buried. Just because they want to be sure the kid has an NBA carrier they apologize for him. He picked the N word because it is racist and he wanted to use all the images of the worst. I suppose the only way the pundits would see it racial is if he said "honk*" Sad commentary.

Very interesting. Read that the reason for the Jim Crow laws was for the benefit of the Democratic party. They were put into place as an attempt to prevent poor white voters and the new black voters from becoming a political voting block that would vote Republican. The thought process behind it was, "you may be poor but at least you aren't black" thus driving a wedge in place.

Sad to see that it is still in use today and still being used as a wedge, even after the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. Today of course the Dixiecrats have switched from the Democrats to the Tea Party and aligned as Republicans. But the wedge is still being used every time the word racist is spoken.

But the ism isn't on distinct physical characteristics. It is: a group of people sharing the same culture, history, language, etc.

As long as the word racist is trotted out when the discrimination is on culture, then Jim Crow is still doing its job of driving a wedge between groups of people.

Why? Well racist comes out easy and carries a trace of plausibility and a lot of filth with it. We also know that solving discrimination on culture, history, language isn't easy. It may be intractable. So even the well educated take the easy route.

There are 39 pages in this thread, I simply haven't got the time to trawl through all of it just for you. If you have been following the general discussion you will have seen many instances to support the statements that I have made. If you think those statements are wrong then you have every opportunity to put your own point of view to the contrary.

Ah, but haven't you stated several times on these boards that we posters are only a miniscule percentage of our countries & not at all the majority of those countries thinking?
