I'm hoping they achieve test status...

What a series - England v Ireland :-)

This is a very good question...

"Are the 'minnows' keeping the World Cup alive?
If Ireland and the UAE produced the most exciting finish of the World Cup so far, they are not alone among the associate nations in providing drama. Afghanistan caused Sri Lanka a scare before the 1996 champions prevailed by four wickets with 10 balls to spare, while Zimbabwe chased down UAE's 285-7 with only two overs and four wickets left.

Meanwhile, some of the matches between the full members have been far more one-sided, with England and Pakistan both suffering heavy losses in their opening two matches. New Zealand chased down England's total of 123 before the floodlights were even turned on, and Pakistan suffered a 150-run defeat to the West Indies. Even heavyweights India and South Africa could not provide a contest, the Proteas subsiding to a 130-run defeat.

Ireland now have four of the top 10 highest successful run chases in World Cup history. Ireland chased down a target of 328 against England and 307 against the Netherlands in 2011, and 305 against the West Indies in their 2015 World Cup opener."

...especially in light of this...

"World cricket's governing body the ICC has decided to limit the next World Cup to 10 teams, but two associate sides who may struggle to qualify for the event in England in 2019 arguably played out the most exciting match of the tournament so far, one that was finally settled in the 100th and final over after 557 runs and 17 wickets"

..bit cheeky then to call it a "World Cup".

Well Afghanistan can notch up a win now after finally overcoming Scotland by 1 wicket and 3 balls to play (Afghanistan had me wondering there when they had a big stumble). ;-)

Now to get up to date on the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka match down at the MCG. :-)

Cheers.

Think Scotland are trying to copy England, at one stage Scotland had Afghanistan at 97 for 7.

The Scots just run out of talent and endurance in the end, but it could've gone either way a few times there I can say. ;-)

Sri Lanka has set Bangladesh a target of 333 runs, this may also be an interesting match with that 1st inning score on the MCG. :-)

Cheers.

I've been away for a while. Computer problems and a few other distractions. This is a nicely active thread! Time for some support for a team other than Australia, England or the amazing Ireland.

Tomorrow, injury- and seemingly doubt-plagued South Africa will have to pick themselves up after being pummeled by India to try and overcome a resurgent West Indies. Maybe doing what Zimbabwe almost did - getting Chris Gayle out first ball - is the key, along with a bit of #ProteaFire, particularly in the top order batting stakes.

Yes, today's match at the SCG should be very interesting as SAF takes on the WI.

The match starts in just under 5hrs.

Cheers.

"Finn also urged the International Cricket Council to rethink plans to cut the number of teams at the 2019 World Cup in England from 14 to 10.

He said having associate members like Ireland and Afghanistan competing alongside full members such as Australia and India makes the World Cup a more exciting competition.

"It would be a great shame if those guys missed out on a World Cup because that is part of the magic," he said."

Let's hope that Colin Graves can do that as unfortunately too many old pharts at the top continue to ignore those who actually play the game.

Another masterclass from ABdeV! 162 not out off just 66 balls.

In reply, Gayle lasted four balls and Samuels gone for a duck. Looking good at 30/2.

And both Gayle and Samuels went very quickly at the being of the WI's innings.

Cheers.

Well the WI's gave way big time, falling at the beginning of the 34th over for just 151 runs.

The Aussies face off against the Kiwis tomorrow across the ditch and India will take on the UAE on the other side of this continent.

Cheers.
