Message 1605356 - Posted: 25 Nov 2014, 16:17:12 UTC

Last night's Top Ten list from Letterman raises an interesting question. (The list was "Top Ten Questions On The Application To Become Secretary Of Defense.")

4. If you could only defend forty-five states -- which would you let go?

So I gave it a minute or two of thought (which is already more than it's worth). I think I could pretty easily live without Maine. And Florida. Maybe New Hampshire. I would say North Dakota, except for all the oil suddenly coming out of there. That's also my only reason for keeping Alaska. New Mexico would be no great loss. Not sure I need South Carolina, either. That's five penciled in, but I can still change my list.

Notice: I intend for this to be a lighthearted, fun thread. This is not the Politics forum.

Just by leaving out one state, the US can defend itself quite comfortably...

...Washington :-)

Washington state is just fine, and the home port of our Pacific Fleet nuclear missile subs. Also a bunch of major commercial ports. And Boeing. (And Microsoft, if that matters.)

Washington, D.C. is not a state, it's a federal district. But if that's what you had in mind, I agree.

Problem is demographics and the Census say southern coastal states and Arizona will eventually turn Blue, Why? Most in these states are Republicans that are also White Seniors and yep, they are dying off...

I would eliminate the state of exhaustion. But I am too tired to debate the point.

White seniors like me, except I already live in a costal blue state. Not moving. Staying blue.

Also, if Texas goes we should keep Austin as a protectorate.

California, New York, New Hampshire, Washington DC, New Mexico (thou they would probably vote to join Texas rather than go it alone) so if not New Mexico then the Denver/Boulder metroplex (affectionately referred to as California East)
