As long as there are mouths that demand food, the oil is coming out of the ground. If you don't want the oil coming out of the ground then you have to reduce world population.

Finally, at last Gary you have made a statement that I totally agree with. +1

Yes. Let's start to reduce the people in countries that crave the most of OUR planet resources!

That's what wars do. Not a politically correct statement to make but true none the less.

Since there are currently 7.5 Billion people and growing:

It would have to be a very large Thermonuclear War(s) to reduce our population to a sustainable level.

Unfortunately... 'The Cure' might cause more damage to our environment than 'The Disease'.

This city in Alaska is warming so fast, algorithms removed the data because it seemed unreal
Last week, scientists were pulling together the latest data for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s monthly report on the climate when they noticed something strange: One of their key climate monitoring stations had fallen off the map. All of the data for Barrow, Alaska — the northernmost city in the United States — was missing.

No, Barrow hadn’t literally been vanquished by the pounding waves of the Arctic Sea (although it does sit precipitously close). The missing station was just the result of rapid, man-made climate change, with a runaway effect on the Arctic.

The temperature in Barrow had been warming so fast this year, the data was automatically flagged as unreal and removed from the climate database. It was done by algorithms that were put in place to ensure that only the best data gets included in NOAA’s reports. They’re handy to keep the data sets clean, but this kind of quality-control algorithm is good only in “average” situations, with no outliers. The situation in Barrow, however, is anything but average.

Promising to ‘Make Our Planet Great Again,’ Macron lures 13 U.S. climate scientists to France
What initially looked like an impish dig at President Trump by French President Emmanuel Macron over climate policy has turned into a concrete plan.

First, when the Trump administration proposed slashing federal science budgets and then, on June 1, when Trump pulled the United States out of the Paris climate accord, Macron took to social media to offer (in perfect English) to greet with open arms — and research dollars — American scientists worried about the political climate as well as global warming.

Macron urged worried climate scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs to see France as a “second homeland” and to come work there because “we all share the same responsibility: make our planet great again.”

Two years after the Paris climate accord was adopted, the French government is unveiling a list of 18 “laureates” — 13 of them working in the United States — who have won a “Make Our Planet Great Again” competition for $70 million of research grants awarded for as long as five years. They include professors and researchers at Cornell University, Columbia University, Stanford University and other institutions.

The data for Barrow, Alaska seems already "lost" from 2014.
I would say that the raw data is hidden!

Some scientists devote their lives painstakingly assembling fragments of evidence to piece together a picture of the past. They deserve tremendous credit. Unfortunately today we appear to have inept or sleazy scientists who take collected data and destroy it – thus permanently blinding our view of the past. These people deserve to be loathed.

South Pole doing better than last year, also a RECORD LOW year ! but doing better than the north pole but still below mean average

CO2 = 407.08 NORTHERN Hemisphere

What disaster?
There are already many vessels sailing in the Arctic Sea.
They have done it for decades.
And today you often dont even have to use icebreakers.
But the luxury cruise vessel “Ponant Icebreaker”, is also the first cruise vessel with PC 2 ice class.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_Class
That will probably be redundant in about 40 years.

Mister Gooba seems to be very amuzed despite the facts:)
Facts are the we already know the cause of ice decrease for thousand of years.
How? By examining tree rings and measure the ratio between Carbon12 and Carbon13.
Carbon13 is only produced from fossile fuel, that are due to human activities.

In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!

Meanwhile, we continue to pollute our entire world towards something ever more unknown and new:

2017 'warmest year without El Niño'

Manmade climate change is now dwarfing the influence of natural trends on the climate, scientists say.

Last year was the second or third hottest year on record - after 2016 and on a par with 2015, the data shows. But those two years were affected by El Niño - the natural phenomenon centred on the tropical Pacific Ocean which works to boost temperatures worldwide.

... "It's extraordinary that temperatures in 2017 have been so high when there's no El Niño. In fact, we’ve been going into cooler La Niña conditions.

"Last year [2017] was substantially warmer than 1998 which had a very big El Niño. It shows clearly that the biggest natural influence on the climate is being dwarfed by human activities – predominantly CO₂ emissions." ...

•Cleaning Up Air Pollution May Strengthen Global Warming•

Pollution in the atmosphere is having an unexpected consequence, scientists say—it's helping to cool the climate, masking some of the global warming that's occurred so far.

That means efforts worldwide to clean up the air may cause an increase in warming, as well as other climate effects, as this pollution disappears.

New research is helping to quantify just how big that effect might be. A study published this month in the journal Geophysical Research Letters suggests that eliminating the human emission of aerosols—tiny, air-polluting particles often released by industrial activities—could result in additional global warming of anywhere from half a degree to 1 degree Celsius.

This would virtually ensure that the planet will warm beyond the most stringent climate targets outlined in the Paris climate agreement. World leaders have set an ambitious goal of keeping global temperatures within 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius of their preindustrial levels. But research suggests the world has already warmed by about 1 degree—meaning even another half a degree of warming could push the planet into dangerous territory.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/cleaning-up-air-pollution-may-strengthen-global-warming/

Perhaps a confirmation of the Law of Unexpected Consequences.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
