More games. From your source about that record low ... "The highest temperature recorded in Illinois was 117 °F (47 °C)" Now subtract 4C from 47C and get 43C and you think glaciers form. Don't know where you are getting your koolaid.

For them to form in Illinois average summer temps would need to be about 20C lower than today, or they melt every year.

And yes the length in years was cherry picked. Extend it back another polar cycle and then you might have data not a datum. Datum: noun ( pl. data Extend it back 10 cycles and then you can do averages and standard deviations that might have meaning.

My koolaide is telling me local weather has no bearing on world weather or temps .

I'll assume for the temps to be that extreme there's high mountains and low valleys .

using your own logic -4 + -38 =-42 even colder

and water won't freeze at 4 C but will at 0 C so small increases can and will effect things

Yet more denial and procrastinations and financial corruption to be damned to the world we live in...

A reliance on negative emissions technologies is locking in carbon addiction

... "The beguiling appeal of relying on future negative emission technologies (NETs) is that they delay the need for stringent and politically challenging polices today – they pass the buck for reducing carbon on to future generations"...

... "Carbon dioxide removal is an extremely attractive technology for fossil fuel companies, as they can continue production [un-costed, unpaid for POLLUTION] whilst shifting the burden of mitigation on to future [present] generations."...

All amplified and worsened from the initial polluting push by:

New permafrost map shows regions vulnerable to thaw, carbon release

A new mapping project has identified regions worldwide that are most susceptible to dramatic permafrost thaw formations, known as thermokarst, and the resulting release of greenhouse gases...

... Northern permafrost soils store twice as much carbon as is currently in the atmosphere. When permafrost thaws, the organic matter in the previously frozen soil begins to decay, releasing greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane. Those gases can contribute to [more] climate warming and further permafrost thaw...

Climate change has doubled western US forest fires

... human-induced climate change has doubled the area affected by forest fires in the U.S. West over the last 30 years...

... "No matter how hard we try, the fires are going to keep getting bigger, and the reason is really clear,"...

Greed today...

Everyone else is to pay for that forever afterwards...

How silly can we get?

Martin

A repeated and consistent message that continues to come to pass to the detriment of all:

WMO: Five hottest years on record have occurred since 2011

... the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) shows that the five years from 2011 to 2015 were the warmest on record.

The report, published at global climate talks in Morocco, strongly links human activities to rising temperatures.

It says that some studies found the the burning of fossil fuels had increased the probability of extreme heat by 10 times or more.

The authors say that 2016 will likely break the record [yet again] for warmest year...

Will the old fossils curruptocracy have enjoyed their pollution and have themselves died before we can properly clean up their mess left behind for everyone else?...

In January the USA will unilaterally pull out of all GHG reduction agreements. The deniers won.

That's a shame. Maybe it should be a humanity issue rather than a political issue.
If we could stop framing everything as us or them, left or right, black or white, all or nothing... then perhaps we could move forward with doing the right thing fo us all.

Can the Deniers deny this?...

Climate change will stir 'unimaginable' refugee crisis, says military

Unchecked global warming is greatest threat to 21st-century security where mass migration could be ‘new normal’

... The generals said the impacts of climate change were already factors in the conflicts driving a current crisis of migration into Europe, having been linked to the Arab Spring, the war in Syria and the Boko Haram terrorist insurgency.

Military leaders have long warned that global warming could multiply and accelerate security threats around the world by provoking conflicts and migration. They are now warning that immediate action is required...

... After Donald Trump, who has called climate change a hoax, won the US presidential election in November, Cheney said he expected senior military officials to impress upon Trump the grave threat posed to national security by global warming. “I’ve got to believe there are enough folks on the national security side that we can make a dent in this.”...

... Or will it be "Business As Usual" for short term greedy profit and our planet and everyone be damned for evermore?...

Are we to be Trumped to be forever damned?

Very unfortunately, this is one world-wide lump of politics that hits EVERYONE.

Not only in the USA...

Trump transition team for Energy Department seeks names of employees involved in climate meetings

The Trump transition team has issued a list of 74 questions for the Energy Department, asking agency officials to identify which department employees and contractors have worked on forging an international climate pact as well as domestic efforts to cut the nation’s carbon output.

The questionnaire requests a list of those individuals who have taken part in international climate talks over the past five years and “which programs within DOE are essential to meeting the goals of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan.”

Trump and his team have vowed to dismantle specific aspects of Obama’s climate policies. The questionnaire, which one Energy Department official described as unusually “intrusive” and a matter for departmental lawyers, has raised concern that the Trump transition team was trying to figure out how to target the people, including civil servants, who have helped implement policies under Obama.

To me, that sounds like a nasty Inquisition. Tests and questionnaires and examinations for anti-Trump or just anti-pollution "thought crimes" come next?... Really all in the name of greedy business and everyone else be damned (or Trumped)?...

What next for the land of the supposed free and the rest of the world?...

Like it or not, the USA is big and the pollution and fallout from the USA spreads world-wide...

The world WILL have wars over the pollution fallout...

This looks to be a crass example of the mindless greed to make extra pollution to shift pollution elsewhere so that yet more pollution can be made to pollute a wider area... How mindlessly greedy silly can people and greedy business and corrupt officials get?...

There should be a law against this:

Can jet engines clean up Delhi's foul air?

... a retired jet engine will be mounted on a flatbed trailer and taken to a coal-fired power plant in Delhi. With the exhaust nozzle pointed at the sky, the engine will be placed near the smokestack and turned on...

The exhaust will create powerful updrafts that will, to put it simply, blast the emissions from the plant to higher altitudes

At first glance, I was hoping and expecting that the dirty old hopelessly inefficient coal fired power stations were being replaced by re-utilized jet engines to be in effect used as cheap but more efficient and cleaner gas turbine generators.

Instead, this abomination and affront to the world merely pushes the existing pollution away further so as to give the excuse to be able to pollute more in that locality. Extra pollution is added by fueling the frivolous use of the jet engines. Bonkers!

A far better solution and a very quick first step would be for some USA companies to go over there on a massive and profitable campaign to either fit smokestack precipitators/filters or to even introduce high efficiency combined cycle gas turbines... Hell, even that tech is stone-age enough to install anywhere for a cheap quick efficiency boost.

There has to be a better way for all...

Martin

Martin, do you not understand. The Jesus freaks -- tea party -- won. God created everything. Science is the work of the devil. The Trump Inquisition is just the beginning, soon the witches -- scientists -- will be burned at the stake. God's work must be done and God's work is burning coal and oil and making babies as fast as possible so that there are more people to burn even more coal and oil. The age of reason is over. The second dark ages are upon humanity.

Gary I disagree, methinks the oligarchs won by manipulating the tea people and bible thumpers. They think they won but time will show they will be in the same sad boat they started in.

Oh the tea people may figure it out, or they may actually be dense enough to simply follow their book of fairy tales, or perhaps worse, have the crusades all over again for several hundred years this time using nukes. Religion is a tough monster to control once it is released, the oligarchs may not be up to the task.

Trumps denial and appointments got me thinking, so I had a look to see if anybody had researched Florida flood risk and Trump branded properties, and found this.

https://www.buzzfeed.com/peteraldhous/trump-buildings-underwater?utm_term=.ceyKAVzn2#.ikQ0b8z7v

Little map so you can see where they are.

There are reports that even with moderate sea level rises that land belonging to the Mar-a-Lago club could be under a foot (30 cm) of water over 6 months of the year.
