Hi Glenn,

That is bat-nutz crazy.

Slash & Burn Agriculture is a Bad Thing(tm)!

But, even worse, consumption of 'tropical oils' is a Very Bad Thing(tm)!

I think that most people will agree that consumption of too much saturated fat has bad effects on a person's health.

Let us look at things.

Beef tallow is about 42% saturated fat.
Pork fat (lard) is similar at about 39% saturated fat.

Now then let us look at some vegetable fats...

Corn oil is 15% saturated fat.
Olive oil is 14% saturated fat.
Canola oil is 7% saturated fat.

Now then, let us look at the 3 'tropical' oils.

Palm oil is 50% saturated fat.
Palm kernel oil is 82% saturated fat.
And the 'king' of saturated fat is:
Coconut oil at 92% saturated fat.

Ok, why is this important?

This is a prime example of how various groups, in this case the nutri-nazis, cause pollution and climate change.

Some uses of fat in cooking really needs a fat that is more 'solid' than liquid at room temperature -- primarily in baking.

Fats higher in saturated fat tend to be more solid at room temperature.

Animal fats got a BAD reputation due to a higher saturated fat content.

The industry, in large part due to public outcry, switched from animal fats to vegetable fats. Although in fairness, cost was also an issue.

To get the more solid fat type desired, the vegetable fats were 'partially hydrogenated', converting (some of) the unsaturated fats to saturated fats. You know. Margarine and vegetable shortening.

This was WORSE. At about the same saturated fat content as animal fats, this partially hydrogenated vegetable fat is not really any better for you than animal fat.

The partially hydrogenated vegetable fats are, in fact, worse for you than animal fats. Why? A little thing called 'trans fats', as opposed to the natural 'cis fats'. A small percentage of the polyunsaturated fats when they are partially hydrogenated, adopt the 'trans' configuration when they drop an 'unsaturated'. Trans fats are WAY worse for you than saturated fats.

Again, public outcry. Out with the 'partially hydrogenated' fats.

What is left?

Vegetable fats that are naturally high enough in saturated fats to be the desired degree of 'solid'.

Namely the 'tropical oils', or a blend of them.

Consider this:

100g of beef tallow has about 42g of saturated fat.

100g of palm oil has about 50g of saturated fat, significantly more than beef tallow.

100g of palm kernel oil has about 82g of saturated fat, almost twice as much saturated fat as 100g of beef tallow.

100g of coconut oil has 92g of saturated fat in it, well over twice as much saturated fat as 100g of beef tallow.

So, misguidedly, the demand is there for these tropical oils. Land owners in suitable areas are doing slash & burn to plant the plants to produce these tropical oils.

This is destroying the native biome.

This is polluting the air in a large part of the globe.

This is changing the climate in and around these areas, hence the global climate.

This is poisoning the health of the consumer eating the stuff.

Prime example of the 'Law of Unintended Consequences'.

What can you do?

Check labels on the food you buy, and if it contains one or more of the tropical oils, don't buy it.

Save yourself... Save 'the planet'...

Not only are they wreathing the region in a noxious haze, they've been pumping out far more carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases on a daily basis than the United States, according to international estimates.

Indonesia's Fires Are Emitting More Carbon Pollution Than the Entire US Economy
https://news.vice.com/article/indonesias-fires-are-emitting-more-carbon-pollution-than-the-entire-us-economy

And the reason for it is to produce food that is a health risk as well:(
The profit goes to big food industries and the losses goes to the rest of us.

This is not nothing new.
It's called Slash-and-burn or Burn-beating.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash-and-burn
This practice was very much used only a hundred years ago in Scandinavia.

Jann in Australia the Kori's burnt the bush . but Australia has had 30,000 years to get used to fires Indonesia's Forests are tropical and the soil is meter thick with good peat from millions of years of Rain Forrest so burning it is stupid plus all the native trees lost

Bann the Parm Oil I say .

Peat are generally nutrient poor.
The only use of peat is AFAIK to cover plants or burn it.
The BIG problem is the CO2 emissions when burning it.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-28/how-indonesia-s-fires-made-it-the-biggest-climate-polluter
“Put simply, this is a climate catastrophe,” Nigel Sizer, global director of WRI’s forests program said in an e-mailed reply. “The emissions from these fires are likely to add about 3 percent to total global greenhouse gas emissions from human activities for the year.”

I was of the understanding that the peat in the rain forests is different to peat moss found in the artic tundra even thou they shared the same name .

Peat from Indonesia and Amazon is very good for growing crops not shore about it having to be burnt to release the nutrients thou .

Here we mix peat with clay soil so the plants can grow better.
Not as a nutrion supplement.
It also helps to keep the soil moist for longer periods.

Peatlands in the coastal areas, such as on the east coast of Sumatra, act as freshwater buffers against saltwater intrusion and they protect valuable agricultural areas (on clay soils) between the peat and the sea.

The peat soils in Southeast Asia are not suitable for agricultural use and difficult to get into. While this has resulted in low population densities, the areas are still important to millions of people for the production of crops such as rattan, for fisheries, hunting and forestry. The world’s most precious timber resources – Meranti, Rahmin and Ironwood trees – are found in these ecosystems.

It has come to my attention that there is a new more Dangerous effect of Climate change .

A new study and experiments that have been done here in Australia points to a catastrophe to all life on this planet .

It is currently happening now .

We may not need to worry about Co2 .

Lynn put a post up and in that post a man get's depressed after talking to a man that claims by 2040 populations will collapse .

When I read it I thought it was a bit Alarmist but after finding out about this new research and the Experiments that have been done ....

This man is not a crack pot or a alarmist

There have been 4 major extinctions on this planet only 1 we know why , the Dinosaurs . The other 3 we do not know .

Well we didn't until now .

Plants are effected by it and also animals and Humans .

The research is only new so more study's will be needed to confirm it .

The temperature is what it's about and how it effects life .

It may already be to late now to stop the 5th total extinction

http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/4353577.htm

A life without Males is the story you need to look at as the implications are very serious.

Find the answer to this question and you will understand it does effect Humans already .

Question 1 Why are people born Gay , what is one of the triggers for it ??
question 2 Why does it seem that there are more Gays now than 60 years ago ??

wrong answer to question 2 : It's because more are coming out and society is more tolerant of it and it is no longer illegal in many country's.

To clarify the above statement and so people know I'm not having a go at gay people I would like people to read this article , Yes I know it's the daily mail but that does not mean the article is total rubbish as there are others you will be able to find .

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3265248/Homosexuality-imprinted-genes-Scientists-predict-gay-70-cent-accuracy.html

please read it carefully .

point : The genetic test is only accurate for 67% so that leaves 33%

point : It says it occurs in the womb

point : There are outside influences and not the direct cause of the genes

When you add the resent study's on frill neck lizards turning female from higher temps and the experiment that showed after 10 generations the population of wheat bugs died out and the only factor was higher temps because they all turnd female my claim about gay people is not B/S

Are UK politicians stupid?

£200 million flagship scheme could see new homes built on floodplains

Those who do buy one of the new homes will be unable to safeguard them under the Government’s flood -insurance scheme Flood Re, which comes into force next April. It funds a cap on the costs of insurance for houses in high risk areas but is restricted to properties built before 2009.

Which one to believe?

Snowpack at 500 year low
or
Snowpack above normal

https://www.inverse.com/article/9686-california-s-sierra-mountain-snowpack-is-at-a-500-year-low

http://mynewsla.com/weather/2015/12/28/california-snowpack-above-normal-for-first-time-since-2012/

It can't be at a 500 year low and be above normal at the same time. Someone is flat ass lying! Is it the government agency that operates the dams and water supply, or is it a global warming scientist whose paycheck is linked to the size of the disaster he portends?
