Switch to GBT maybe.

If that is true then those of us who are running Lunatics are screwed.

Don't hold your breath for GBT data. It will need thorough testing on the Beta site before it is released in the wild.

Edit: I'm sure Lunatics will have an app for it if needed before we see it here.

From the home page,

The science database server crashed a few hours ago. The project is down until the database recovery is complete.

Cheers.

I would expect GBT data & app testing on Beta before it hits main.

When I was a little kid, the general store in Byron Bay (back before self-service, you asked at the counter for what you wanted, and they fired your money and the bill on overhead wires up to the cashier above, who returned the little trolley with your change and receipt...) there was a sign on the counter, "When all else fails, raise this flap!" Should you actually raise the flap, you saw the message, "Not now, stupid, when all else fails!"
Given the reluctance of physicists to read the documentation, I've often thought of prefacing an instruction manual with, "When all else fails, read the instructions." With, of course, the obvious riposte on the first page...
[Edit] Oops, put that reply to the wrong post! [/Edit]

Well so much for wu's this weekend, guess it's time to tackle the rebuild of the old machine. It'll keep me out of trouble at least.

Will this ever gonna work again?
Don't let the volunteers crunch too much on their backup projects, f. e. Einstein, etc.
When they see the credit given there, they might give up on this... :þ

Dear Arne,
I cannot follow you on this (though you put an apt smiley).

You are a very loyal SETI cruncher, since you stated few posts above that it is either SETI (any flavour) or nothing and now you hope that everybody leaves the project so that the remaining few will have the big share of the WUs while SETI rots away?

Are you serious? ;-) :-)

The fact is, as Ulrich as pointed out (and I did in the thread bout back-up projects), that now the king is naked for everybody, not only the ones already exploring other projects.

Everybody is now experiencing the unbalance in the credit system among projects and the ones caring for credits more than the goal of the project (and still had not yet noticed how he situation really is) might go away.

I have easily earned in the last day more credits than half a month of hard SETI crunching. :-) :-)
There is something really wrong on this, for whoever cares (but if we want a credit system because we trigger people competition and willingness to crunch, let alone the fantastic SETI toaster which will be awarded to the cruncher discovering ET or reaching 10e12 credits, then we need to care).

I am not leaving SETI, but I do not like the idea that we risk that this place can get more lonely than our Planet (which is not what we like, if we are her, do we?).
We have already lost Mark to Einstein for many reasons, probably not for the credits, I wish we do not loose other people.

I know how much you are contributing to the project, so do not take this as a very hard comment. I liked it to put it this way for fun, but it could be rephrased much lighter.

Nevertheless, I think that it will be anthropologically interesting to see what will happen when SETI comes fully back online.

True, when people get used to the extremely much higher credits of their backup project, they will abandon SETI in droves.

That'll of course benefit those of us who stays. More work units for us, and much easier to get them, once the project starts splitting work again :-)

Don't worry about me, just because some backup projects pay very well I'll be back smashing MB's as soon as I can. ;-)

Cheers.

Seti and Einstein are not projects to max out credits.

Some projects indeed do not, Rac however is also important.

I'm crunching Einstein too (just to keep the old rig from going "silent") atm and I must admit 3333 credits for a 3.5 hour GPU WU is massive compared to Seti. But the science and my field of interest remains here and as soon as the project is back up I'll be 110% committed to Seti

Any of the 'droves' that abandon the project miss the point of it all, it's not about RAC it's about doing science and trying to answer the biggest question in the universe, are we alone?

To me RAC is only a fun way to measure the efficiency of the rigs I've built and compare them to other configurations. We are all just cogs in the machine and when some of the cogs get miffed because they've become an idler pulley for a few weeks oh, well.

Keep the faith! Work will come again, if you're a religious person pray for the reincarnation of dear Bruno in a better body.

Asimov and Heinlein preserve us.
