7.4.27 allows graphics on GPU crunching!!! Since I have Lunatics installed, I can't get them to work for SETI; however, Einstein's screensaver just came up for me. It shocked me when I saw it!!! I thought I was hallucinating!!! However; I wasn't, it was a great sight to see! :-)

[EDIT]

Can someone who's not on Lunatics, crunching SETI on 7.4.27 on a GPU confirm that graphics are supported??? I'm very interested to know.

Thanks,

TL

Never mind...

SETI Beta kicked in to crunch, and the screensaver stopped. I checked BOINC, and highlighted a Beta unit, and the "Show Graphics" button was greyed out. So, no SETI graphics when crunching on GPU... :-(

Bummer... I like graphics.

This isn't something that 7.4.27 does specifically, it's a function in the science application itself, whether or not it can work together with a simultaneously sent graphics app. Einstein has been sending out graphics applications with all their GPU applications since March 2011, so it's not something awfully new.

Seti doesn't have it yet. They'll look into it for the Seti v8 applications.

BOINC 7.2.42

Forwarded that to development. I think it's because of the problem with wxwidgets 3.0.1 not working on all systems, or perhaps they forgot to add 7.4.25 (which is the Linux version) to the download link.

For further background on that decision, see the recent thread why no graphics/screensaver for v7 7.03 (opencl_intel_gpu_sah) files?

If it works so perfectly why would all these people waste so much time & effort on over 40 some fixes? ;-) ;-) :-)

Why do all the people upgrade to newest drivers all the time ?
Even when its buggy.
There are more reasons not to upgrade than vice versa.
At least on Anon plattform.

I plead guilty to ALWAYS upgrading Drivers, BOINC, and Everything else. Sometimes with disastrous results.

On the other hand I have found that if it's not broken I don't fix it, that works better for me.

I heard someone saying: "Fix it 'till it's broken!"

just joking... X)

BTW: 7.4.27 running fine here on Windows XP - Yes, XP!! ;)

Cheers.

I seem to have good timing in that I update my systems right before the next recommended version is released. I just recently updated all of my systems to 7.2.42.
However I plan to go with the latest semi-stable release of 7.5/7.6 on some systems for the <dont_use_vbox>0|1</dont_use_vbox> option.

I've Updated to 7.4.27 and just run the stock apps.

Running an ATI 6670 and 13.12 Driver.

Graphics for 7.03 are still greyed out.

Just a small warning, especially in the face of needing a backup project for this project. We have had reports, and I have managed to replicate this as well, that when you set a backup project at zero resource share and you have never downloaded work from it yet, that BOINC 7.4.27 will not download work from it, no matter how empty your queue is.

But even though I've sent in three separate logs about this to the developers, not much has been returned about it. So it's probably a figment of my imagination and that of the three other people so far who reported it. :)

It's not a figment of your imagination, Ageless, I've noticed the same on my systems. With work units getting scarce, I raised my download limit to 10 days and got a full cache on all machines for SETI. I run 6 other projects and noticed that after they finish a work unit, the reply for "not needed" CPU cache full appears.

11/16/2014 12:34:00 AM | LHC@home 1.0 | Sending scheduler request: Requested by project.
11/16/2014 12:34:00 AM | LHC@home 1.0 | Not requesting tasks: don't need (CPU: job cache full; NVIDIA GPU: )
11/16/2014 12:34:02 AM | LHC@home 1.0 | Scheduler request completed

Maybe you could pass this on to the powers that be as it's only happening since I upgraded all my machines to BOINC 7.4.27.

V 7.4.27 has made some changes to the way information is presented in the log.

LHC does use a feature that many projects don't. It set a timer to call home on a regular basis so that work is returned and reported quicker.
They also allow only a very small cache (15 or 20 WU).
