THIS IS ABOUT NUMBER CRUNCHING.
I quit smoking 12 years ago or so. So in a way I'm a recovering addict. Well I love AP's I think their the greatest and I wanted that brand and no other. It got to the point where I looked forward with great anticipation for Tuesday late in the day. I would get my fix of AP's. This went on for weeks until I came to the realization I was hooked. I had it bad. My whole week revolved around Tuesday and making sure I got my stash of AP's. And had enough for the foreseeable future.
I got sick on AP's and quit cold turkey. Gave 'em up. Bam. I still love AP's but what the heck, they are in such demand let the other guy's grovel over AP's.
My week goes nice and smooth now. Tuesday means no more to me than the other days of the week. It's great. And I'm doing a good deed; cleaning up the poor unwanted MB's. I hope this isn't any kind of hate speech again.

Merle,

You sounded just like me about 1 week ago..lol I took stock of how much I've changed (and collected new equipment) over the past year since I returned to Seti full time. I have already filled 1 closet with equipment and have started on the coat closet now, lol. Here's a pic of my spare GPUs (minus 1 GTX 780 that I RMA'ed but will have the replacement today)

I could if I wanted to, right now build a 5th computer since I only lack a HD but I think 4 of them (for me) is enough. Yes, this is what happens when a Hobby becomes addiction. But to that end, this isn't as destructive as some of those other addiction are. Plus (depending on the project) you can see some results sooner or later.

I jump between project now and then but I started here and here is where I intend to always come back to.

Keep the faith Merle..

Happy Crunching....

I've been crunching on and off for 11 years, but never had the capability to maintain a cruncher for a long period. I started again last year around Christmas with one of my ancient laptops, which had some issues that required some soldering to get it to work... Almost a year later, it is still crunching.

Fast forward to my main cruncher, is where I got addicted. I got it as a gaming PC earlier this year, which I usually leave to seti while I am traveling or sleeping. Then I got another 780 for SLI, which I told myself that I need it for gaming where technically I didn't. It was for seti, but I convinced myself I need it for gaming. Now I got to a point where I feel bad whenever I am gaming, because I am keeping seti from crunching. Another thing I won't admit, is that I am playing a lot more on my console to avoid suspending seti...

I tried to quit smoking once, it worked... for a year... and I am working on a budget for a dedicated cruncher in the coming year or two...

Group therapy? :)

@ Zalster
All those gpu's. Looks like a need for speed. I want one too but it isn't going to happen anytime soon. You just need to slow down a little. My cruncher had relearned my thinking to a slower pace. It is not the fastest but it gets there. My task list is proof of this fact. Just learn speed is not all there is. Have patience.

AP's were the way to go for RAC. But with the new V7 AP the verdict is still out. Seeing as how Bruno bit the big one we wont really know how they pay untill the masses start crunching them.
My self Im hoping for parity between MB amd AP. Yeah I belive in the RAC fairy also:)

Ive seen that pendulum swing both ways.
