Well I recently installed Windows 10 as an upgrade from Win 7. All went well with the exception that it installed Windows graphic drivers and SETI stopped working on the GPU. I just changed the drivers and the GPU is working again.

By the way, this is much better than Win 8.1 for my desktop (which I really did not like at all-I went back to Win 7 on all of them). It shows as Win 8.1 in my account for now.

This is a tech preview and not fully functional but what I see I am really liking.

By the way, all I did before doing the upgrade was to exit BOINC, it started up again on its own after to upgrade finished.

My lappy was running out of work today, so I thought it's time to clean it and install the latest windows updates. The update process took forever and after it finally finished nothing worked anymore as it should. I couldn't start any programms, I couldn't read/write from USB, I couldn't even shut down the computer. The update completly broke the OS. Damn, I really hate 8.1. Windows 7 runs on my desktop since more then three years with hundreds of updates and it still works. 8.1 is completly f****d after a few month and just 3 (or so) updates.

So I took the chance to install the Windows 10 technical preview on my lappy. Everything went well so far and it looks and feels much better then 8.1.
Two programs I usually use are not working though. The first one is Avast, but I guess I can live without an AV when just crunching on the lappy. The second one is HWMonitor. Have to check if there is a beta which maybe runs on W10, or I have to look for alternatives.

Well, the only thing I still miss now is WORK FROM SETI to get my lappy crunching again!

NX-01 under-scores my feelings about 8.x - a PoP.
With 10 running (albeit a pre-release version) why not have a look at Beta, I'm sure they would welcome input for their current crop to see what needs to be sorted for that base.

There is a program I use in another hobby that turned out to get completely screwed up by one of the security updates last week. I think I heard there *might* be other programs that are also screwed up by it, so maybe MS will issue a revised update. Meanwhile, we (those of us who use that program) can all simply not use IE.

On my Windows 8.1 PC I downloaded two upgrades today. One was a security upgrade and was installed without any problem. The second was an optional upgrade of more than 900 MB and I downloaded it. No problem so far on my Virtual Box programs running on it, ATLAS@home and vLHC@home. BOINC is 7.4.27.

I just did that, Rob. Couldn't get a single Seti-WU all day and vLHC is just running two cores, so I thought I could as well do some Beta work until problems are sorted out on main.

BTW: The W10 technical preview has automatic updates activated by default and usually won't let you change these settings. Ofc automatic updates are not a good idea when crunching, so I had to look for a way to set it to manual. If anybody wanna try out W10 and wants to know how to change updates to manual, just drop me a pm.
