Health Highlights: Dec. 1, 2014 WHO Misses Dec. 1 Ebola Targets The World Health Organization will fall short of its Dec. 1 targets to control the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. By that date, the agency wanted to have a patient isolation rate of 70 percent and to have safe burials of 70 percent of victims in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, the three hardest-hit countries, the Associated Press reported. However, those targets will be achieved only in Guinea. In Liberia, only 23 percent of Ebola patients are isolated and only 26 percent of required burial teams are operational. In Sierra Leone, the rates are 40 percent and 27 percent, respectively. http://health.usnews.com/health-news/articles/2014/12/01/health-highlights-dec-1-2014 |

The patient will be monitored and observed for signs of infection. Super-flu outbreak fears as CDC warns new shots may not protect against mutated virus sweeping America As flu season begins to ramp up, health experts say the vaccine does not protect well against the current strain sweeping across America. The variant - influenza A (H3N2) - has been linked to higher rates of hospitalization and death, especially in the elderly. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials say the shot should still provide some protection, but it would be better if the vaccine strain was an exact match to the mutation. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2859957/CDC-says-flu-shots-effective-virus-drifted.html#ixzz3Kyren4bt |
