In the UK all McDonalds are franchises which means that the individual manager has some sway in how their outlet is run, provided that they keep up the brand name standard. If you felt that this particular place served weak watery chocolate, I would drop a short line to the manager, alerting them to it. They may have a new employee learning the ropes, as most of the summer vacation students are back at College or Uni.

G'day Chris, they're mainly franchises here too, but they're tightly controlled by the Australian HQ and its sales office, quality control and distribution systems, so 1 McD is pretty much the same as any other no matter where you go around the country down here.

Cheers.

It's not that tightly run a ship in my neck of the woods. Even the buildings' architecture is in several different styles. I think the franchise holder has to foot the bill on new designs, so most of them just paint it and that's it. On the other hand, I actually don't like the modern look of the new MCD's. They don't have the iconic Golden Arch look anymore.

McDonalds UK has Vice Presidents instead of Directors, but not surprising as it is an American Company. We in the UK still view them as an American fast food hamburger joint that competes with KFC and Burger King. McD UK

We used to have Personnel Managers, then we had Human Resources Managers, now it appears that McD have People Officers!

One other tidbit~ The fast food workers in the U.S. are trying to unionize and create a $15 minimum wage.

Good luck to them. Of course there should be a minimum wage in law, I have always agreed with that. But in actual practice even that is too low, what is really needed is a "living wage" but many employers would go out of business if they were forced to pay that. Never going to be an easy answer for either side.

The story I read said $22 an hour is a basic living wage for one person in NYC.

Well Walmart brings in big money but pays nothing in wages, the cut the hours to 30 so they don't have to pay some benifits. One of the biggest companies in the US and pulling something like that.
Cheers everybody

It is very common here, and if Canadians
can't afford to work for a firm they get
workers from third world countries to
do it. Our government is trying to fix
this to huge opposition from big companies.
