Heh heh heh heh heh :)

I accidentally set light to an entire evening's supply of treats with a sparkler one year (in front of about ten or eleven devils, witches and ghosts who'd gathered at my door) and then promptly doused everyone and everything with a large bottle of coke cola which must have got a bit shaken up en route to the conflagration.

Either they thought their treat was escaping with their lives relatively intact or decided I was a force to be reckoned with when it came to tricks because we suffered no repercussions for having a lack of treats that year :)

Now I just hand out money :)

Annie, I wish you had a vidio of that. Do you get many trick or treaters now days:)

I am appalled that no one offered to serve the coffee and donuts.
Will these do?

Oh and as to non-smoking. Yes that has been banned at all eateries in California.

James. My felicitations to your nose :) No... nowhere near as many... *wounded look* and the ones that do either use some form of retractable pole device or knock on the door and then hastily retreat to the gate by the time I answer it. To be honest... it's a bit like trying to befriend wild animals now...

Message 1587109 - Posted: 15 Oct 2014, 12:16:56 UTC - in response to Message 1587089.

Some years ago we had feral kids from the local Council housing estate twig that Halloween was a good wheeze to go around in gangs of 3 or 4 and demand money or sweets from old age pensioners. At other houses if you said no thank you, you got a mouthful of abuse, your car scratched with coins, and/or the dustbin kicked over. Running my Neighbourhood Watch at the time, it was reported to the police, and for the next two years we had police patrols in the area at that time. We have been trouble free ever since.

It works well in the States and Europe, it doesn't generally work in the UK unless parents go out to supervise, which most don't bother to do.

I live in the countryside. I have not seen a child knocking on my door in 20 years I think. Now children usually go to the larger organized events.

Here trick and treating is for younger kids.
They all come out with pumpkins, bags, and
pillow cases. Plus they always come out with
their parents. Then at eight o'clock the lights
go out, and the curfew goes in to effect and the
streets are cleared. We have volunteers (Mums and Dads)
who supervise the kidneys.
