I like the idea of decriminalising it, all those lovely "posthumous" Darwin Awards displaying in my cab window from all those dope-heads that end up under the wheels of my 44 tonner... ...I have yet to see anyone pass comments on drugs & driving. We see plenty on TV about this time of year regarding drink & driving as we head into the Xmas season. Can anyone on here who drives genuinely state that being under the influence of drugs does not affect your driving? |

So is this link useless? Cannabis & Mental Health "Is cannabis addictive? Yes. Even though in the past cannabis was not thought to be addictive, current evidence now suggests that it can be, particularly if used regularly. Cannabis has the features of addictive drugs such as the development of: •tolerance – which means having to take more and more to get the same effect. In heavy users, you can experience withdrawal symptoms such as: •craving •decreased appetite •sleep difficulty •weight loss •aggression and/or increased irritability •irritability •restlessness •strange dreams." |

So you're saying that you use both? If so, you don't drive for 56 days? "This is why cannabis can be detected in urine up to 56 days after it has last been used." As for slow moving dope-heads: - "A recent study in France looked at over 10,000 drivers who were involved in fatal car crashes. Even when the influence of alcohol was taken into account, cannabis users were more than twice as likely to be the cause of a fatal crash than to be one of the victims." So with your sarcasm, we take your word over those of qualified medical professionals? |

Tell me about it! I've had several accidents with fatalities. I'm still surprised to this day that the dope-head & drunks I took out did not affect me but the one that put me off the road for close to 3 years was one involving a foreigner with no license, tax or insurance. She survived, the 4 year old boy did not. What made that worse was the written letter from the (Political Correct) police force criticising my driving. I was well within the speed limits, vehicle fully documented & roadworthy. It won't be much longer till the day will come when "normal" people will be the minority in the world. |

Driving under the influence of chemical substances is not acceptable - but I'd much rather be on the road with a driver on cannabis than one on any other substance - and that includes the one that is a contributory factor in more than 70% of road traffic fatalities - raging testosterone... Sorry boys. *tum-te-tum and stir the pot* :) Would be nice if we could get to the situation where 100% of car accidents were caused by sober, non-drug users though wouldn't it... instead of the present paltry 68% Anyway... off to try and get to sleep... AGAIN... :/ edit: of course - I have driven under the influence of caffeine... anti-histamines... paracetamol... carbon monoxide... and they have all affected my driving in one or another I think... |

Sorry boys. LOL, maybe a "little" bit of pot might be helpful with that? |

Some are forgetting that legalizing pot smoking doesn't make it legal to drive under it's influence. And it probably won't impact the percentage of accidents caused by it's use as it is widespread already. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

The Truth About Driving While Stoned "Mark Kleiman, a drug policy expert and professor at UCLA, says driving stoned is hazardous, but much less hazardous than driving drunk. Marijuana, according to a 2013 Columbia University case-control study, holds a relative risk of 1.83—meaning that driving 10 miles stoned is equally dangerous to driving 18 sober. This number falls significantly below those of other factors. In the same study, alcohol is shown to have a relative risk of 12; alcohol combined with something else, 23. According to data from the National Safety Council, the relative risk of texting is 4. “You shouldn’t be driving stoned," says Kleiman. “But there are many things that will degrade driving just as much if not more—having a 4-year-old in your back seat, sleepiness, texting." Tell me about it! I've had several accidents with fatalities. I know you were a HGV delivery driver, but several accidents with fatalities?! Several?!!! Just how bad are the roads over there? While HGV drivers over here have a fair number of accidents, several fatal accidents is not common. Maybe one or two but several?!! I'm still surprised to this day that the dope-head & drunks I took out did not affect me but the one that put me off the road for close to 3 years was one involving a foreigner with no license, tax or insurance. She survived, the 4 year old boy did not. Maybe there was something which wasn't illegal or immoral you did that isn't the smartest thing to be doing. The law only sets out guidelines, not best practices. Reminds me of someone I talked to once who in the space of a couple years was rear ended 5 times. Rather obviously he was doing something to get hit that much, but the law says in a rear end accident the other driver is at fault. |

Tell me about it! I've had several accidents with fatalities. Nope, did nothing wrong. Silly buggers turned right onto a one way road, unfortunately for them, the traffic was travelling left... ...get the picture? To make comments like that Gary without knowledge of the incidents, I find surprising coming from you. |
