Not so shore micheal . The example of Denmark could be a good idea . I herd that after they decriminalised it usage went down and has stayed down . I don't count the tourists I'm taking about the local Denmark people , so if that is any thing to go buy it mite just be better to legalise it or decriminalise it

Well, thats the thing. Decriminalizing Im all for. We do that in the Netherlands and it works wonders. Some of the lowest drug related crime and usage rates in the world. But decriminalizing it is not the same as legalizing it. It just means that possession and using it no longer gets you jail time. And it means you can legally sell it. But growing it in large enough quantities (more than five plants I think) is still illegal.

Yep, I like the Netherlands very much. It's a very clean country too.

One can have one plant a person here in Belgium and carrying it is illegal. One thing we Belgians know about Belgian legislation is that it doesn't make sense at times:) The government used to have a policy of tolerance but not anymore.

That I think is the most important point to be made. I don't think that anyone should get a criminal record for possession of Cannabis, but also I don't think it should be as freely available as cigarettes in the corner shop, or alcohol in an Off License. Which probably do as much harm anyway, but why add a third long term hazard to health?

Marihuana has been proven not to affect the lungs like nicotine, in fact, it doesn't affect the lungs at all. The Indian ancestors smoked it, but they're long forgotten...

Geeze Julie come on. It's not the nicotine that affects the lungs when smoking tobacco.

Smoke from cigarettes contains tar, which sticks to the cilia in our lungs. The cilia usually act like little brooms to sweep out harmful dirt, but when you smoke cigarettes, the cilia can't work because they're covered in sticky tar. That means that dirt can stay in the lungs and cause problems.

It doesn't matter if you burn (smoke) tobacco or Marihuana, they both affects the lungs equally bad. Marihuana also produce tar when burned (smoked).

I wish people would stop spreading ill informed rumours about things they obviously haven't got a clue about..

Smokers (and it doesn't matter what shit you smoke), get seriously ill more easily than non-smokers. Some of these sicknesses are bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, and heart disease!

Most of these sicknesses are a result of damage to the cilia (the little brooms) in the lungs. Without the cilia working, the dirt-filled mucus slides down into your lungs and blocks the tiny airways so that the air can't get in and out! You may notice that people who smoke seem to cough a lot. This is because they have to cough to get rid of the dirty mucus in their lungs. People who have healthy lungs hardly ever need to cough, because we have those great cilia working to get that dirt out!

Excuse me, nicotine AND tar, scientifically spoken, djee.

And BTW: Should a University run messageboard really allow threads like this that seems to glorify narcotic drug use?

I'll let the moderators look at that, and maybe even Eric should take a look at it.

Thanks for highlighting the elephant in the room which still has not been answered...

As for moving it to the café? Has the moderation rules changed that abruptly since the 9th Feb?

A sane discussion on this topic is necessary, otherwise there's no use for this thread.

A sane discussion about a drug that the world would be better off without? Just because Alcohol and Tobacco is considered socially accepted drugs, that doesn't mean we should add Cannabis to that category.

There's nothing to discuss really, Cannabis should be outlawed everywhere, except for strictly controlled medical use. Anyone disagreeing with that, can obviously not partake in a sane discussion.

Don't for a moment think that I do not have the same ideas about alcohol and Tobacco. Alcohol is a great detergent and should be used for that, and as a fuel, not poured into the human body. Tobacco should also be banned, since it, as well as alcohol causes millions of deaths every year.

If people need to get a high from drugs, then maybe it's time to take a close look at your life, instead of numbing yourselves with drugs.

A sane discussion on every topic is needed at times.

Not on topics that in itself and by its own nature isn't sane.

People do NOT need recreational drugs of any kind. If they feel they do, then as I said: "maybe it's time to take a close look at your life, instead of numbing yourselves with drugs."

In your opinion.

Well Bernie, in your opinion then, what recreational drugs does YOUR body need, and why?

Do you need to pour a detergent into your body, or smoke burning wood?

Did I say I needed any? I personally do not.

I know some who do and some who believe they benefit from cannabis, and I am not in a position to disagree. I haven't touched it in 40 years.

However your statement was an opinion and I was just clarifying that, not saying you were right or wrong.

Quite interesting social study though, of how people react when their use of drugs of any kind are questioned.

Thanks for participating in this study.

By all means, keep pouring detergent down your throat, and burn leaves :-)

And of course, caffeine, sugar and salt all bad for you if taken in excess, as is red meat.

However I believe red wine in moderation is actually good for you.
