President Obama is expected to announce the resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder later this afternoon. He has been a major thorn in the a#@$ss for the Tea/Republican party, and will step down as soon as a replacement found. He will be sorely missed and I hope that his replacement will keep up the good work that he has started. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

What's this got to do with Robert Kennedy? Actually Kennedy did more for civil rights when he became a senator after his brother's assignation then he did as AG. But it must also be noted that the Civil Rights Bill of 1964 was signed because what he and his brother started to craft while still in office as AG. To some of the civil rights community he was a legend.
You, I don't understand you at all and I've resisted replying to your rants for some time, but it behooves me to question you at this time. With Eric Holder being the longest serving A.G., who had the heat on him, but those that detested him the most especially when it comes to voting rights? What illegalities is being washed away? Everything that the Tea/Republican party has tried to bring against him have been proven false, completely debunked, I ask again what illegalities? Unless you are a Tea/Republican, I can't see why you would want a cuppa to celebrate. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

Amid the gibberish, you may be correct. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

You still haven't explained the link between the title of this thread and the content. Robert Kennedy has been dead since 1968. The word missing from the title is "since", and I think I explained the link between the two in my previous post. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

OK, now it makes more sense, whether the statement is correct is debateable. I never read into a statement any words that are not there, hence my confusion. The topic is that Eric Holder is resigning as attorney general of the USA and Cliff believes he is the greatest civil rights proponent since Robert Kennedy held that office. But as he is not dying that I know of he will still be around to fight the fight, just not as the attorney general. But as he is not dying that I know of he will still be around to fight the fight, just not as the attorney general. Yes Atty. General Holder did not bring criminal charges against the banksters, but what he did do was a handful of eye-popping, multibillion-dollar (mostly) civil settlements with many of the country’s biggest banks.
In July, Citigroup (C) agreed to pay $7 billion. Last November, JPMorgan Chase (JPM) agreed to pay $13 billion to resolve their own mortgage fraud investigations. In total, the Justice Department says it has extracted almost $37 billion from banks in mortgage settlements. The DOJ did force two foreign banks, BNP Paribas (BNP) and Credit Suisse (CS), to plead guilty to criminal charges of violating U.S. sanctions and helping Americans avoid taxes, respectively. They also paid enormous fines.
Voting Rights - challenging regressive/suppressive voter-id laws that immediately sprung up within hours of the supreme Court striking down Section V of the Voter Rights Act of 1965. Equality for Gays and transsexuals - rewrote the book on federal rulebook to promote equal treatment of same-sex marriages, he played a key and honorable part in the unfolding movement toward recognition of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans as full citizens. Changing manatory prison sentencing - giving prosecutors more flexibility in certain non-violent criminal cases. Immigrants - fought against state laws that targeted immigrants or people who police might think look like immigrants I don't buy computers, I build them!! |
