I am unable to run Seti@Home any longer one of my PC's. All are Windows 7 Pro with the latest updates. For some unknown reason, one of my PC's will not download any of the CUDA_XX.exe files. If I try to do it manually, it says I don't have permission to the C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder. I've tried everything I can find via Google to resolve this issue (changing owners, disabling UAC, tweaking users) to no avail. I understand there were changes to the user permission aspects of BOINC or Seti@Home and I'm wondering if I have something from an older version causing me troubles. Any help would be appreciated. |

The folder you are trying to access is either non-existent or is write protected. So find the folder and make sure its properties are set to modify, read+execute, list contents, write , special permissions for the user "boinc_projects". (It is good practice to unhide your computers while looking for this sort of help - it allows others to see if there is anything wrong with the apps, or their configuration (Note, un-hiding your computers doesn't allow anyone to gain access to them, it just allows others to see the configuration data that is already on the server. The folder does exist under the BOINC folder (C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu). Also, all of the users shown for the BOINC folder as well as all the folders under it (projects and setiathome.berkeley.edu) have full access, including "boinc_projects". I'll look into the unhide option. Thanks. |

The folder does exist under the BOINC folder (C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu). The 'projects' folder doesn't exist under C:\ProgramData\BOINC? Sounds like a botched install. That computer shouldn't be crunching at all if this is correct. |

The folder does exist under the BOINC folder (C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu). So are there any files in \setiathome.berkeley.edu\ ? Do you run BOINC from admin Windows account? Did you try to reinstall BOINC? (this will probably give 'Repair' option) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

There ARE files in the Seti@Home folder and the projects folder DOES exist under c:\programdata\boinc. What I did was uninstall the application, deleted any leftover folders, deleted any users/groups related to the application, removed any reference to BOINC or Seti@Home from the registry, ran ccleaner, and rebooted the PC. I then reloaded the current version of the application and all is well. I can only assume something was corrupt in my installation. |

Simple uninstall/reinstall of BOINC usually fixes the permissions (no need to go with so big 'cleaning' as you did) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
