Another late-night win. 104F today, didn't feel like doing anything. Smoke from the wildfires in the air not helping. Chipped away at a few projects, took a couple naps. Supposed to start cooling down by Thursday - we'll see. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Scene: karaoke bar, time: last night ~10pm. Present: me, some other people. Previous singer has just desecrated Blondie's Atomic, next bloke (~40 years of age) walks up to the mic, says "i'd like to dedicate this to my girlfriend", then proceeds to sing (not very well) Young Girl by Gary Puckett. I'm left thinking WTH just happened? And should i call social services? Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

I would advise you to yes. An addiction to frequenting karaoke bars is a treatable condition these days. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

Scene: karaoke bar, time: last night ~10pm. I had to look up just what the age of consent is in the UK (16) and wonder just what age the "Young Girl" was, as well as this guy's girlfriend. And I also wonder just what the Beatles meant by "Well she was just 17, if you know what I mean." It would not be a problem in the UK, unless he was in a position of trust over her. (While researching it, I found this partial paragraph on wikipedia: "The Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885 extended buggery laws to outlaw any kind of sexual activity between males. It is common folklore that an amendment that would have criminalised lesbian acts was rejected by Queen Victoria because she refused to believe that some women did such things; but it is likelier that those presenting the amendment excluded it (as did the House of Lords 40 years later) on the assumption that it would give women ideas." Silly gits didn't think women could have their own ideas. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to run off to the euphemism. BTW, I popped in here early for a pre-outrage Ping!
