I have a question for Mark..... Did the complaint about your fundraising come from someone officially affiliated with SETI at home or another cruncher? Since it all goes into the same purse at SETI I don't see a reason for the complaint. SETI does it's official fundraising in December if I remember correctly. How can a fundraiser in September interfere with that? Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

I have a question for Mark..... I have sent the mods a suggestion someone get a hold of Dr Korpela and get an official answer on this. I suspect there's a lot more info here that we simply aren't aware of--and could even possibly be a misunderstanding |

This was a private argument about the tone of Mark's fundraiser that appears to have got out of hand. The person involved was not an official representative of the project, either as admin or as a moderator and the comments may have been taken out of context. I have it on very good authority that the person is very sorry that they lost their temper and responded in this way and that their views are personal and do not in anyway reflect Seti@home fundraising policy. I will lock this thread for now and see if I can get someone from the project to confirm this. |

Esme has it down. Mark posted a one-line segment of an argument he was having with my wife. My wife is entitled to her personal opinions, which she was expressing privately. Angela doesn't speak for the project. Neither does Mark. We value every contribution. We enjoy donation challenges. Nobody should be claiming project endorsement for their challenges. Nobody should be claiming they receive special privileges for their efforts. Nobody should be berating anyone for the size of their donations. Everyone here donates computer time and electricity. We've been generally tolerant of Mark's idiosyncrasies on the forums. This has not been because of what Mark contributes to the project, but out of simple kindness and an understanding of the challenges he faces. Mark does not have special access to me, and I think his claims of that were what initially angered my wife. @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) |
