:))))))) No... and fortunately the plastic bag I melted/incinerated was welded onto the outside of the saucepan not the inside. Was close though :) Sort of wafted up on a thermal... Science eh. Dangerous stuff :)

G'morning everyone, I hope that you have all been behaving yourselves. :-D

Well after finishing Saturday here on a dry note, probably due to the 2 days before hand, Sunday's Beer O'clock will certainly commence in 2.5hrs.

Cheers.

You know that's one thing that has puzzled me, I once hit the wrong button on the micro and cooked something for 20 minutes instead of two (it made it to about seven minutes before the smoke alarm went off). The plastic container was alright but the food ended up like something you'd use to get a barbecue going :)

Eight months later it still smells like something is burning whenever I warm/cook something in it :) Cheers :)

SBORT :)))) sorry... erm... :/ and um... :(

Just as well the plastic didn't burn too... the house doesn't half reek for ages after incinerating the stuff :/

It puzzles me too... microwave ovens I mean (aka charcoal makers :))... I rarely use mine. Asked the internet about the plastic thing though... internet said:

Because such plastic is transparent to microwaves, just as it is to light. Microwaves pass through the plastic without being absorbed by it. When any form of electromagnetic radiation is absorbed by matter, it is converted to heat, but if it is not absorbed there is no such conversion of energy. However, in a conventional oven the plastic is subjected to high levels of infrared radiation, which is much lower in energy than microwaves, so is much more easily absorbed. However, even though an empty plastic container will not heat up in the microwave, a plastic container containing food may eventually melt in the microwave because the food absorbs the microwave radiation, converting it to heat. Once heated, the food emits infrared radiation, so if the food gets hot enough, the heat absorbed directly from the food may cause the plastic to heat above its melting point.

Which I think means that you rescued your charcoal before it caught fire and melted the plastic... Well done!! In every sense of the word :)

Hi Annie

Internet said it wrong:)
Infrared radiation, are much lower in energy than microwaves.
Not true. Microwaves have less energy then infrared radiation!
Simple maths:)

...made something in my head go clunk I must admit... but I put it down to putting my beer down too hard... Thankyou Janne!! You know... for reassuring me about my beer and for clarifying everything with the numbers and letters too! :)
