The Islamic State (IS) previously called itself the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) or the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). It is an unrecognized state and a Sunni insurgent group active in Iraq and Syria in the Middle East. In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims across the world.

So your point is? We already know that, so again, the point of your post? Don't you have any views asides from constantly pointing out the obvious?

Dragged into a war by clowns who can't even run a railway

& a very interesting link off the above, & a scary one at that...

Khorasan, Kurdistan, Iran not far from Iraq.

Its population is about 105, in 26 families

Message 1579172 - Posted: 28 Sep 2014, 21:00:35 UTC - in response to Message 1578209.

ISIS will adapt & by doing so, to continue with the humanitarian aid as well as preventing the atrocities that are happening, there is only one choice left!

Boots on the ground!

Hmm...

Who will fight IS?

"Not long after the president said emphatically that there would be no combat mission for US ground troops, General Dempsey said that there might have to be one. He wanted to keep his options open, in case of complicated military operations, or more seriously if the mission was failing.

That is why IS is being treated with great caution by America's Arab allies - and why this could be the beginning of another long, hard, bloody episode in the Middle East."

Cameron defends air strike strategy

Some commentators have suggested ground troops would also be necessary. And Lord Richards of Herstmonceux - a former head of the UK military who stepped down as chief of the defence staff last year - told the Sunday Times: "We have to view it as a conventional campaign, which means you have to have boots on the ground."

...48 hours after my comment.

Anyone found anything regarding Cameron's "Comprehensive Strategy"? Before anyone chimes in with "that will be classified" as they don't want to "telegraph" their plans. Well that went by the wayside when Del-boy announced this

Not very intelligent or classified now was it, & to tell the country that he won't seek approval for that mission - Is this the UK or the USSR under Stalin?

Have good acquaintance, who 'assisted' the 'Kurds', inside Iraq, a short time ago. And for a longer time, a few years ago.

He describes the Kurds (Sunni), as a very tolerant people towards both Shite and Christian followers. The Kurds, he says, do not kill other's who do not share their Belief, and even protect Christian Church's and Shrines.

Make sense because many of the Kurds are Christian. About 2 million.

What springs to mind here, especially after reading the following report is: -

Afghanistan, CIA & Taliban.

Air strikes on IS

"As Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif put it, the conference was a gathering of a "coalition of repenters" trying to rein in the "Frankenstein that's come to haunt its creators"."

The best solution here is for America & Iran to combine into a Financial, Military & Diplomatic force & the Middle East will sit up & take notice.

It does not need a coalition of forces, just two nations...

Unfortunately, the Yanks will not back down on their stance with regards to Iran, hence the Middle East will remain a powderkeg for many years to come!

I've been wanting to post something here for a bit - but I did myself an injury after watching the lighthouse thing...

<ten minute interlude>

*gasp* oh dear... hmmmmmmmmnnngggg

I think it's loosened something in my brain - possibly a mooring... or maybe all of them - because I keep coming over all... ironic... you know... that we're bombing our own equipment... either directly supplied by us, or supplied to our middle-eastern "allies" (like Saudi Arabia) who have long since used beheading in their jus-BOOMING SNORT-tice systems (without a peep out of us) and who have armed and funded most, if not ALL of the terror groups operating in the region that we haven't.

*pause for thought: Should this next bit be in the capitalism thread anniet? Dunno. Wouldn't be the first time we've strayed off topic would it?... erm... no :/* So...

Ensuring a *return attack of irony-vapours* ... Let me try that again. Ensuring a um... healthy continuous market for our goods - after we've made them and sold them... isn't bombing them an excellent growth strategy peoples! :) Not only can we then justify making more bombs, but we can offset the cost against a booming retail market to replace everything we've smithereened for many years to come! And all in a region notoriously unstable!! To borrow a phrase from Sirius's post... there's a lot of money to be made in the Frankenstein franchise... and then of course there's all that oil too... BOOM times indeed! :) (<- SEE what I mean about the loose moorings - normal anniet would NEVER put a smiley there :/ )

edit: to avoid accusations of double-standards... the term "terror groups" is technically interchangeable with "freedom fighters" as... when the west DID start arming Syria's rebels (amongst others) that IS how we looked upon them... not the first time that has backfired on us all... :(

That's why I think the Global Warming bullshit, is just that, pure dung! All those burning oilfields, my oh my, what pollution! No matter, the moneymen earned their crust for that week.

The great unwashed in their shiny uniforms can recover them, albeit a few of them maimed or killed, we don't mind & they don't matter, my date with Julie Roberts & Jennifer Lopez is secure.

In the meantime, the price of oil goes up, so I pay more for my gas, but I make enough on the stock market, so don't give a shyte!

The great unwashed return home - "Thanks old bean, good job, now be a good little boy & bugger off".

For too long the West have not only maintained that attitude towards their own, but have greatly applied that attitude to those they always see as "inferior". Well those inferior people are teaching the West that no matter what they do, they will never win.

You know what? That is true & the problems in that region will continue as no one in the West will do what is really needed: - Either genuine diplomacy or all out war. Either option will never be in the mindset of those in power, they're too afraid of what the voters will think & do & they want to remain at the feasting table for as long as they can.

Real peace in the Middle East? Not in my lifetime.

Did I just turn several pages at once? The arms industry and the oil industry are hand in glove - perfect symbiosis.

I'm sorry Sirius :/ can't seem to achieve the same flying leap to reach your conclusion...

We are more dependant on oil than we care to admit. However, this century shows that asides from our dependency on that, the arms & oil industries are intertwined more closely than one can realise.

Your yourself noted that in stating the bombing of resources that we ourselves provide. What a lovely financial circle that is for the bosses of those industries.

Be afraid, very afraid

"Mrs May also promised police greater access to internet data.

The new measures will be targeted at people and groups who "stay just within the law but spread poisonous hatred", she said."

Well, that's me on top of the list then as I hate, bent coppers, corrupt officials, lying politicians, tax avoiders, tax evaders, druggies, alkies, snivel serpents, muppets constantly blowing their own trumpets, health & safety nazi's, political correct twits, rapists, neighbours from hell...

...oh dear, that's the majority of today's society - think I better emigrate to Iraq, much safer :-)

Postscript: "UKIP said the moves paved the way for governments to "block free speech", while campaign group Big Brother Watch, said it was "wholly wrong" to label someone as an extremist with a "due legal process".

+1

40 nations have formed a coalition to destroy IS & to free oppressed people, which is a lovely sentiment...

...meanwhile, back home, the citizens of the West sit idly back & watch our own leaders suppress us even further & all in the name of freedom!

Has anyone noticed that not a shot has been fired in the West?

It won't be long before we all wake up one morning to find ourselves totally screwed!

WHO defines Hate, or Hate Speech?

It appears The Right want the same power, as The Left uses, to impose THEIR will upon the population.

The Left, and The Right, should both drop dead.

IS maybe loosing control over oil revenues, but still controls 40% of the annual wheat harvest.

Personally I don't hold out much hope for this region of the world as the same crap has been going on for longer than written history.
