Message 1562249 - Posted: 25 Aug 2014, 17:49:55 UTC - in response to Message 1562149.

You don't sound like you've spent any time with the average 4 year old. That description fits them perfectly.

Yeah, alright, I grant you that a four year old roughly fits that description. But thats about the latest age for when that normally applies.

Teens are definitely narcissistic. Any parent or teacher who doesn't take that into account is going to have a very hard time. Angela or Hev might be able to shed more light on the psychological development of people, but as I've said before, the pre-frontal cortex is not fully developed until you are in your twenties.

Self centered is not the same as narcissism. With actual narcissism come traits that definitely do not fit with teen behavior, such as their constant need to fit peer groups. A narcissist would seek validation from others, but would never be able to conform to peer pressure in order to join a peer group. A narcissist also employs magical thinking in order to protect their own ego from any kind of criticism. Teens don't do that, at least not to the extend that actual narcissists would. And a narcissists thinks of themselves as perfect and amazing in every way. How many teens suffer from constant crushing self doubt? How many teens think of themselves as absolutely perfect? Right, that hardly happens.

Like I said, teens and narcissists share certain traits, but it would be a massive stretch to equate the two.

Obviously children and teens aren't psychopaths or narcissists, but they do display these traits more than fully mature adults. That is why it is so hard to diagnose these disorders until someone is fully matured.

Agreed.

Remember the old saying: 'The only difference between men and boys: Is the price of their toys'.
Is it in the DNA?

Hmm Interesting:)
Maybe some day they will manipulate our genes so we will perfect Citizen.
Talk about evolution! A giant leap for mankind.

Manipulate our genes, I don't like the sound of that to be honest...

Me neither.
Sounds much like Nazi Germany to me:(
It's perhaps better to leave this to the nature.
It has worked for maybe 1 billion years.

Never disturb nature's balance is what I think (cfr. my concerns on CERN) Messing around with nature on a scale like that is pure danger!

As with any new technology (here, gene manipulation), evil could come into
the picture, if the technology is not guided in the best interests of society
(a separate subject, perhaps). I bring genetic research into this thread,
even though it might be considered a little off-subject (with more immediate
concerns).

However, from my reading of different threads, Sci-Fi enthusiasts, with their
legitimate, more visionary concerns, are correct in being just that --
visionary. A good antidote for "future shock".

Returning to gene modification, envision a nation which would develop an
army of super-warriors (and, lots of them); with them led by a ruling class
with an average IQ of 1000 (to pick a figure). Far-fetched?

Well, I truly believe that if the USA government (or, any other, for that
matter) thought that the potential for super-men was on the horizon, a
biological arms-race would ensue (It pbly. is being conducted, of a fashion,
by many countries, with research still in a relatively-benign phase in
universities.).

So, getting a handle on "evil", might well have to be approached on
all fronts; the immediate, and the future.

From my view, this very popular thread (a hat-tip, to Julie) has scratched
an itch having concern for many folks -- not just here, in Seti-land.

Far fetched, errr, let me think, nooo, of course not Jim:)))

People are becoming more conscious due to the post-atlantic culture period we're going through now, according to Rudolph Steiner. Steiner, RIP, predicted this period (and others) to come. Antroposophy is something that keeps one busy...

Kinda. The simple fact remains that gene manipulation is expensive, slow and will always produce limited results. Other avenues of research in human enhancement are much more promising and far more likely to happen and result in 'super soldiers'. Although honestly I think that idea is rather dated as well. Soon we have robots that can do much more than your average soldier, so why would you bother with enhancing humans to do the fighting? Robots are cheaper.

The laws of economics apply to war as much as they do to everything else.

So in the end its robots against robots. So why have a war anyway? Reminds me of that old Star Trek episode where computers fought each other and said who had do go in the chmaber to die to meet the quota. Kinda stupid way to have a war. Either shed blood in your belife or dont have a war.

Well no, I dont think the future of war will be robots vs robots. They are expensive and difficult to build and maintain, so only advanced armies backed by nation states can really afford them. Also the kind of states that don't go to war against one another, but are more busy fighting smaller groups like the Taliban, Boko Haram or ISIS.

Evil is a concept made up by Man that is used to pit one man against another an make killing less of a bother on one's conscious mind. Life is a competition where it seems like everything eats something else. Even plants compete for light and nutrients using chemical weapons. So I would say LIFE is evil.

Well, "lower" life-forms, as well as humanity, compete for the usual things.
But, their competition is not evil. How else would they survive?

Our standards involve -- ideally, certainly -- cooperative competition.
Pushing it to the limits, but then backing off, is seen in the Russian-
Ukraine talks. At least, possibly, we've gotten beyond the disaster
in Hungary.

There are always the fanatical elements to deal with. Even though I favor
peaceful solutions to problems, standing up to the schoolyard bully is, still,
a good idea (I've had to, in the past.). They seem, only, to respect
knuckles, or the sword.

Admittedly, in today's world, the schoolyard's bullies have knives and
firearms; plus, the principal would frown on such behavior. So, one has to craft his defense, carefully.

This morning, I remembered Genevieve Lhermitte, a Belgian housewife who killed her five children, very sad story:( That woman must've been born evil. How could she have cold bloodedly killed her five children otherwise??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genevieve_Lhermitte

She even sued her shrink, bad bad woman...

After being sentenced to life imprisonment, Lhermitte filed a lawsuit seeking €3m in damages against her psychiatrist, Diderik Veldekens. She said that had her psychiatrist rushed to see her while she was in her disturbed state, the crime would not have been committed. Lhermitte wanted to “secure recognition of the prejudice genuinely suffered” due to the psychiatrist’s alleged inaction.[16] During the trial, Veldekens reported meeting with Lhermitte after a first alarming letter, but couldn't meet with her on February 13, 2007 due to his full schedule.[17] In December 2011, the case was dismissed against Veldekens. The court ruled that the criminal charges against the psychiatrist were "irrelevant."[18]

It looks like the woman had serious mental health problems rather than being "evil". She should have been sent to a psychiatric facility rather than prison as she wasn't responsible for her actions.

A very sad story all round.

But still her mind was clear enough to be able to sue her shrink, strange... She clearly knew what she was doing and was also conscious about it.

Evil behavior?

Putin against Russian children
Putin's police against women
Putin and his chechen killers
https://www.youtube.com/user/RedSquareNews

Throwing a lemon on a police, 5 years sentence.
Killing a man, 5 years sentence.
Putting a woman in a cars trunk, no sentence.
