True adult behavior doesn't kick in until the 20s

Perhaps 40's

I'd say 30's, with men 40's, yes. Of course it depends on various factors.

Isn't that just a tiny bit sexist ?

I could imagine the reaction from yourself, Es and the other women on the boards if, FOR EXAMPLE, I said something like "women don't exhibit 'adult behaviour' (whatever that is) until after menopause". It would bring the wrath of the Valkyrie down on me. :)

I accept the fact that you said it tongue in cheek, but fair is fair, and if somebody wants dish it out they have to be able to take a similar level of slightly sexist humour in return without getting their panties in a bunch.

Now that's a tad exaggerated, isn't it? ;) I'm just speaking from my own meandering experience here, sorry if I offended anyone by it.

Are you a parent ? Because the original statement is one of the few things Es and I totally agree on. :D

Can children be horrible little monsters? Yes, sure. Does that make them psychopaths (anti social, remorseless, poor impulse control, disinhibited)? Like I said, thats stretching it a bit.

And can teens be extremely self centered? Do they have narcissistic traits? Yeah sure, but does that make them actual narcissists? Again if you look up what REAL narcissists are you will find that teens do not even come close to being actual narcissists.

And with Narcissism also comes the problem of culture. Western culture has inherently more narcissistic traits than other cultures. Its an offshoot of our over admiration of individuality. Still it doesn't make us narcissists.

PG 13 means you do not use anywords that you wouldn't use in front of someone's 13 year old child. Hardly evil, simply common good manners.

I think people that enforce the PG-13 standard are generally oblivious to what children already know at that age. Lets just say that when I was 13, the words that I can't say here were considered nothing special by me and my peers.

Once upon a time our country had a PG-11 rating for public movies.
But they realized that the movie industry would collapse because of all American Movies which are loaded with obscenitys and foul language.
Kids here already knows american foul language at 10 because of US!!!
And did you know that American movies for kids now contain more violance then movies for adault.
Where are American common good manners?

My ten year old daughter knows more swear words than I do, I hate it and I keep on correcting her. I, for one, am glad with the PG13 on these boards.

it's all fine having a pg13 but what mite be a insult or swear word in one country is not in another and the word that has caused trouble for people is not as bad as others used here .

what of a word which in my country is not a swear word or a insult but in say America it has a different meaning the word is BUGGER
The problem here is there are those that think there better than others so critize if you misspell or hit the wrong button and don't proof read

And as for the comment greed does not lead to evil behaveour what planet is this person on of cause it leads to evil

GFC ,world war 2 hitler's greed for power

so yes wake up America

Remember the old saying: 'The only difference between men and boys: Is the price of their toys'.
Is it in the DNA?

Hmm Interesting:)

Earlier I made a post that apparently stepped over a line regarding a word I used to illustrate a point I was making regarding the substitution of a non offensive word for one that would raise red flags everywhere. I have seen this practice many times on these boards when someone replaces what would be an offensive word with one that, by itself, is harmless. I am sorry if I offended anyone as that was not my intention.

Now back to whether some of us are born evil. In my eyes a person is evil if he/she does or says bad things and enjoys seeing the results and has no regrets about doing it. To me children up to a certain age don't have a true conscience and should not be considered evil. A baby could push a button or pull a trigger with the result being the death or injury of another living being. That is not being evil, just merely and naturally curious with disastrous results. But preteens torturing a helpless animal such as a kitten I see that as a sign that there are evil tendencies present and those persons should be monitored closely. They won't necessarily grow up to be evil but the seeds are there.

+1

Who does the manipulating? For what result?

There has been programming on the Science Channel relating to research in human gene manipulation for a variety of reasons ranging from elimination of birth defects (I'm in favor of that) to making a new generation of uber smart individuals (not sure about this one). They have already succeeded in placing a spider silk gene in a goat resulting in the silk being present in the goat's milk. I think though, overall, gene splicing may do more harm than good.

From what I've read, thus far, genetic modification (of humans) would be
to mollify/eliminate genetic afflictions. I believe, some progress has been
made, but would have to go back and check the literature.

Any future efforts to raise "IQ", would, probably, raise
the portion with less than the average (100) -- rather
than raise total IQ.

You don't sound like you've spent any time with the average 4 year old. That description fits them perfectly.

And can teens be extremely self centered? Do they have narcissistic traits? Yeah sure, but does that make them actual narcissists? Again if you look up what REAL narcissists are you will find that teens do not even come close to being actual narcissists.

Teens are definitely narcissistic. Any parent or teacher who doesn't take that into account is going to have a very hard time. Angela or Hev might be able to shed more light on the psychological development of people, but as I've said before, the pre-frontal cortex is not fully developed until you are in your twenties.

And with Narcissism also comes the problem of culture. Western culture has inherently more narcissistic traits than other cultures. Its an offshoot of our over admiration of individuality. Still it doesn't make us narcissists.

Obviously children and teens aren't psychopaths or narcissists, but they do display these traits more than fully mature adults. That is why it is so hard to diagnose these disorders until someone is fully matured.

It's perhaps better to leave this to the nature.
