I can finally do them. They now work for me, both as HTML code and as the actual character. ;-)

Then work your magic here too, please.

Make everyone a project admin? :P

That would be fun, wouldn't it? Then we'd truly have distributed computing...

I've got a 9,000+ character, 229 line code snippet in my private message inbox from the server problems at the beginning of this month, and it's being rendered all on one line.

Talk about thread s - t - r - e - t - c - h - i - n - g ...

No, I'm not an admin here.
But why not copy that whole thing and add it directly into Wordpad or Notepad++ ? That'll add the line-ends again.

As for the <> signs in [code/] and [pre/]containers, all of those would go missing for me. Despite the containers, the code was executed, just as I have when I do not use the containers. Which makes for an interesting cc_config.xml example...

I had to resort for a while in translating the whole cc_config.xml example to use < for < and > for >, before that broke. But as I said, that works now for me. I'm just back to the situation where I need to remember that any XML code I write without containers will get executed and is not visible, not for you, not for me. :)

Also fonts are really big etc.

I noticed that too, on some pages. The SSP, for one. Here in the forums, they're fine, normal.

Oh, the line-endings are there in edit/quote mode - that's how I got the character/line count. And the whole thing was posted to the boinc_projects mailing list at the start of the month, and it's done its job - I don't really need to keep it any more, except for nostalgia.

But I can't edit a received PM in situ, and I want to be able to receive PMs like that in future - so I'll leave it where it is as a mine-canary for the code-fix, and inwardly curse the BOINC developers every time an ordinary PM is made unreadable until then.

Fair point. There are only 22 'Workunits waiting for validation' shown on the server status page (down from 63 a few minutes ago), so it sounds like that counting routine is broken too, even though the page itself seems to be working despite the error messages.

Yes, I'd say that counting routine is broken, seeing as how it appears that out of those supposed 22 'Workunits waiting for validation', I have 88 of them. As of 23 Sep 2014, 23:58 UTC, the next time my host 7057115 reported, the problem seemed to have cleared. Unfortunately, that window between 23:41 and 23:51 was the first time that host was able to report its backlog of completed tasks, following HTTP errors all night, then the outage, and then more HTTP errors. It had something like 260 tasks waiting to report by then!

Oh come on, it must be great to be able to dump some unfinished code onto a working server, then go home to the family and see what to do about it the next day, or even later. Something we all wouldn't mind being able to do. ;-)

Wez,

Most people are seeing these as well on different pages. Seems to be related to the changes they did yesterday. Hopefully they are working on fixing these problems.

That particular one hadn't been mentioned before, and wasn't in my 'comprenhensive compendium' error report to the BOINC devs.

I can't see it on "every page", even by selecting a non-default language, but I do see it on language_select.php, so I'll add it to the next batch.

I have found (so far) only two pages where I don't see it, SETI@home Message boards and Questions and answers

Also fonts are really big etc.

For me, only those two pages I did mention before are normal.

Maybe because I do use English WinXP/Chrome but my "Regional and Language Options" on WinXP are set to Finnish.

Okay, I got rid of that problem by switching language of these pages to Finnish and then back again to English. Or somebody did update code...

The post after yours is from user "Notice: Undefined variable: db_name in /disks/carolyn/b/home/boincadm/projects/sah/html/inc/db.inc on line 87 Unable to connect to database - please try again later". :)

projects may have developed a lot of PHP code that uses the
old mysql_* interface.
Let them keep using this interface...

Well, at least with the larger characters the index is better legible for those of us with reading glasses.

But that could be done with computer settings:)
Im also old and now having difficult to see at short distances.

Julie. No problems with the servers:)
An update of the webservers was done today.
But they forgot to test it before publishing it...

BOINC replica database carolyn couldnt be reached from the webserver.
Strange though to have sourcecode there.
Anyway its working now:)
