Sometimes it works (very slowly), often it fails. Expect a long maintenance session later today...

Oh well, if things don't clear up in the next couple of hours I'll just have my GPU backup projects ready to fill in. ;-)

Cheers.

Before I went out for lunch, I couldn't connect at all. Now I'm back, connection and reporting are working again, and I've just got my first task (just one, a shortie) in about two and a half hours. I'm going out to dinner tonight as well, so let's hope that has a similar beneficial effect.

In the enforced absence of our self-appointed lab communicator, I've taken it upon myself to write to the boyz, with a special heads-up for issues which might need special attention during maintenance - such as the validator queues growing on the server status page.

Forums seem a bit slow since we came back, but I think that's normal for right after the outrage, isn't it?

I'm having a lot of trouble reading my stats and communicating results/getting new work. I saw oscar (BOINC master database) was shown as down for a while but he's green again now; still getting time-outs when reporting, though.

Staff have replied to me saying that they're not aware of any specific reason for the problems we saw overnight, but they're going to keep a careful eye on things as we go through the 'recovery after outage' phase.

Their opinion an hour ago was that things aren't much different from the effects of a normal shorty storm: but I have to say I've seen a lot of shorty storms in my time, and this one didn't feel normal to me.

One thing has been ruled out - there hasn't been another unannounced server update, such as we saw the consequences of this time last month. For which relief, much thanks.

I see that this morning here that the servers don't want to talk again just as they did last night before the outrage. :-(

Cheers.

Personally - on the big box I use for intensive monitoring - I'm getting 'connect and report' more times than not - no backlog of completed tasks.

But again, I've only got two new (cuda) tasks since the outage - normally at this time on a Tuesday, I can get 50 or even 80 tasks in a single request.

Could anyone with a heavily-active CPU check if they're getting an unusual number of VLARs, please? That's the only explanation I haven't felt sufficiently motivated to test.....

My main rig got to report work just after the outrage finished (no work received though), but since then all I've got are HTTP internal server errors on both rigs. :-(

Oh well, I'll just keep my backup projects primed to go. ;-)

Cheers.

Quick check has 3 out of the last 20 -- over all machines -- as VLARs. That encompasses 20:11:55 UTC to 22:29:55 UTC.

I can't say I have a heavily active CPU but I did mess up on my setting after this outage and downloaded 92 MB by mistake, looking at them, about 1 in 4 is a VLAR. I've been having trouble downloading any APs. I've also noticed that there is significant lag between connecting to the server and response. Even the Message Boards are lagging.
