What the hell did the doctors do that could make you die 24 years later ????? . The Drs did the best they could, but he was left partly paralyzed. The Medical Examiner determined that his death was directly attributable to the damage done by the gunshot wound - that is what makes it a homicide. John Hinkley Jr. was tried on several counts of attempted murder, was found not guilty by reason of insanity, and has been confined to a mental institution ever since, although in recent years he has been allowed supervised visits to his parents' home. The Prosecutors are still researching the law to see if he can be charged with murder, or if double jeapardy has attached due to the previous aquittal.
