OMG... Nurses Blast Hospitals Over Ebola Safety WASHINGTON –- A national nurses union said during a hastily-scheduled press conference Tuesday evening that hospitals are dropping the ball on safety for nurses caring for Ebola patients. Deborah Burger, co-director of the nurses union, read an account of hospital conditions she said had been given from nurses at Texas Health Presbyterian. The statement painted a portrait of carelessness, with nurses who interacted with Duncan wearing flimsy gowns and protective gear that left parts of their bodies exposed. "Nurses had to interact with Mr. Duncan with whatever protective equipment was available at the time when he had copious amounts of diarrhea and vomiting, which produces a lot of contagious fluid," Burger said. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/14/ebola-nurses_n_5986468.html |

updated.. Nurses say 'the guidelines were constantly changing' at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital - and claims hazardous waste was left to pile to the ceiling in the room that Duncan was being treated. Speaking at a hastily arranged press conference on Tuesday DeMoro and union co-director Deborah Burger alleged an unprofessional and careless approach to Ebola at Texas Health Presbyterian hospital, where Thomas Eric DUncan passed away last week. The specific claims made by DeMoro and Burger, if true, are 'startling' according to CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta. They include: Thomas Eric Duncan was not isolated immediately when he was admitted to the hospital with Ebola symptoms. He was 'left for several hours, not in isolation, in an area where other patients were present,' said Burger, who said that seven patients were in the vicinity of Duncan. A nursing supervisor faced interference from hospital chiefs when they demanded Duncan be isolated. The protective clothing the nurses were wearing when they initially treated Duncan left their necks exposed. When they reported this to their superiors, the nurses were told to use surgical tape and wrap it around their necks instead. 'They were told to use medical tape and had to use four to five pieces of medical tape wound around their neck. The nurses have expressed a lot of concern about how difficult it is to remove the tape from their neck,' said Burger. The nurses made the shocking allegation that during Duncan's care, hazardous waste was dumped in a room and built up to the ceiling. Ultimately, according to DeMoro and Burger, the nurses feel 'unsupported, unprepared, lied to and deserted', especially in light of CDC Director Thomas Frieden's assertion that a 'breach in protocol' led 26-year-old nurse Nina Pham to become infected. "This nurse was being blamed for not following protocols that did not exist. ... The nurses in that hospital were very angry, and they decided to contact us," DeMoro said. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2792457/Ebola-patient-cared-70-hospital-staffers.html |

Texas Hospitals, where you go when you want to get sick. Unfortunately, this is the best in American Hospital medicine, where profit is king. |

They should have had no exposed skin anywhere. seams should have been taped. and they should be decontaiminated when they left his room. The urge to wipe your eyes or scratch a part of your body is instinctive. I know. I work with machine oil every day. And when your hands are oily thats the time when that itch happens. And I will have you know thats a hard habit to break. So My guess is that the training for infectious diseases leaves a lot to be desired in this country. And the news in those affected countrys in Africa. Is very bad. [/quote] Old James |

Case #3. http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/2014/10/second-health-care-worker-tests-positive-for-ebola-in-dallas.html/ A co-worker of Nina Pham (I don't know if it was the above mentioned boyfriend) that also took care of Mr. Duncan has tested positive for Ebola and been isolated. Edit: nope. this is not the Alcon employee (boyfriend?). Different case. |

If this takes hold & from what has been seen & heard worldwide to date, profit will be the least of your worries. Someone mentioned earlier about "Industrialised Nations", well, we're seeing how they are managing. Not looking good is it? |

By the way, who was paying for this Liberian man's treatment anyway? I suspect as soon as the lawsuits get filed for the crappy infection control the bean counters will scream loud enough that every place will have a good inventory of the correct personal protection equipment and there will be money for classes on how to use it even at overtime rates. BTW did you all buy shares in the PPE makers? |

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/10/15/ebola-patient-traveled-day-before-diagnosis/ DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The CDC has announced that the second healthcare worker diagnosed with Ebola — now identified as Amber Joy Vinson of Dallas — traveled by air Oct. 13, the day before she first reported symptoms. Is everyone fscking insane??? This whole thing is rapidly mushrooming into a gigantic fuster-cluck.. WHY were these people not ordered to not travel? Or at least put on the infamous 'no-fly' list??? Still think that 'industrialized nation's health care systems' can handle it? |

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/10/15/ebola-patient-traveled-day-before-diagnosis/ It's Texas healthcare. Same Texas that is so loved when it comes to checking ID's at the polls. Same Texas that pushed for State's Rights, like the right not to follow the CDC since that is the illegal Federal Government messing in the Right of Texas to license and train its doctors. Now when are the managers at that Dallas Hospital going to be charged with the crime of intentionally exposing their workers to a hazard without the proper PPE? Are they going to serve felony time? Or will this be handled like ballot box 13? Where is OSHA? |

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/10/15/ebola-patient-traveled-day-before-diagnosis/ Ah quite true, but the question is: - Will Ebola let us learn in time? |

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/10/15/ebola-patient-traveled-day-before-diagnosis/ Ebola is not new to us, we learned about it already in the past... Thing is, this could become the end of human kind but I have my doubts somehow. The breeding grounds are quite centralized atm, it's up to the bigwigs to make sane decisions I'm afraid:( rOZZ Music Pictures |

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/10/15/ebola-patient-traveled-day-before-diagnosis/ Learnt? Are you sure? They seem to be really stupid mistakes made at the moment, which does not suggest that anything has in fact been learnt. |

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/10/15/ebola-patient-traveled-day-before-diagnosis/ There's a certain knowledge about Ebola which is applied thank God for that. As I stated before, all we can do is learn, and learn from the mistakes we make, we actually don't mean that much in the cosmos, in fact, we mean s*it. That's a very true fact in the eyes of an astronomer (which I ain't; 'officialy') There's a minimum risk if you see it on a bigger scale... rOZZ Music Pictures |
