Ebola Scares, around the country today :(

About 70 hospital staffers cared for Ebola patient

DALLAS (AP) -- They drew his blood, put tubes down his throat and wiped up his diarrhea. They analyzed his urine and wiped saliva from his lips, even after he had lost consciousness.

About 70 staff members at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital were involved in the care of Thomas Eric Duncan after he was hospitalized, including a nurse now being treated for the same Ebola virus that killed the Liberian man who was visiting Dallas, according to medical records his family provided to The Associated Press.

The infected nurse had close contact. Let's hope the remaining people will be OK.

Judge blocks disposal of Ebola victim’s incinerated belongings in Louisiana

The incinerated belongings of Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan were bound for a Louisiana hazardous waste landfill — until the state's attorney general, Buddy Caldwell, raised concerns that the ashes could pose a danger to Louisiana's population.

OMG ashes are deadly, Film at 11:00! Someone should incinerate that politician for stupidity and require his ashes to be shot into the sun because of the risk of contamination.

I read that and could not believe it. But Gary do you really want to shoot him into the sun so his stupid DNA can fly back to earth on the solar wind:)

The biggest contributors to loss of containment will be a mix of ignorance, fear, religion and greed.

Ebola Cases Could Zoom to 10,000 a Week, WHO Warns

The Ebola epidemic could get dramatically worse with the rate of infection soaring to 10,000 new cases every week unless drastic measures are not taken within the next two months, the World Health Organization said today.

That staggering figure is approximately 10 times higher than the current rate of infection, but WHO Assistant Director General Dr. Bruce Aylward said that it could easily get that dramatic if steps are not taken now.

Sixty Days To Beat Ebola, United Nations Warns

If the deadly outbreak cannot be reined in by Christmas then the UN says there is no plan in place and it could be overwhelmed.

The UN says the ebola outbreak must be controlled within 60 days or else the world faces an "unprecedented" situation for which there is no plan.

The United Nations made the stark warning as it warned that the disease "is running faster than us and it is winning the race".

Nearly 9,000 cases of ebola have been reported so far in West Africa, including 4,447 deaths.

"The WHO advises within 60 days we must ensure 70% of infected people are in a care facility and 70% of burials are done without causing further infection," said Anthony Banbury, the UN's deputy ebola coordinator.

Husband of Spanish Ebola Victim: She was only Given Half an Hour to Learn How to Wear Protective Gear

In a scathing letter calling for the resignation of Madrid's regional health chief Javier Rodríguez, the husband of a nurse auxiliary who contracted Ebola from a patient in Spain asserts that his wife received only half an hour of training in how to appropriately use protective gear, and chides the government for not doing enough to protect her.

Yes, Spain cut their funding of health care a few years back. Penny wise pound foolish.
