My AMD 2800+ Mobile with 256 MB RAM takes about 6 hours to finish one WU, than clames about 70 credits, and always gets only about 30. It's not the amound of credit that it gets, I'm asking if anyone of you has any ideas how to decrease the processing time for one WU (I don't care if it clames less credit later, it doesn't get it anyway).

It is a LAPTOP! Do you have the sytem set to shutdown or "hibernate" after a certain length of time? How about shut down the hard drives? How about shutdown anything after a certain amount of time? How about shutting down when the power is low? Is it plugged in all the time? Does it have very good airflow around it so it is not ramping down due to overheating?
Power settings on laptops can be a bear to work around, if you are using the defaults that could a major cause!
I have a 2800+ desktop and here is a typical unit:
24939476 4459 24 Dec 2004 2:16:13 UTC 25 Dec 2004 2:33:25 UTC Over Success Done 11,057.14 42.88 pending
You can see I am only requesting 42.88 credits compared to your 80's!

I know it's a laptop, thanks for the info :P At the begining it had around 3 hours/WU, but a month and a half ago it started having so long computing times. No, it doesn't hybernate, and it doesn't shut down. By the way, it's pluged in all the time. Just one question, is the computing time lower if the hard drives are shut down?

=========

I would think that the Hard Drives have to stay running because the Seti Program is constantly writing to the Disks. If I watch my Computers HDD Lights they are always blinking so there must be some type of activity to the Hard Drives going on with Seti all the time ...

Yes if you shutdown the hard drives it will essentially stop the program, unless you run the program in ram only. There were/are programs to put Classic into ram so I guess you could do it with Boinc too. The problem with those is that if the computer/program crashes everything not written to the hard drive is lost.

If BOINC is not working then the CPU time isn't increasing in the client so it's not becouse of HDD. I think it's becouse your notebook is overheating. Some CPU's slow down when they get too hot ( i know this happens with P4 dont know about AMD in notebooks) I think that the CPU get's too hot and reduces the clock to 1/2 of normal speed that's the reason! :) this option is called thermal-throttling (not sure) in your bios , try to turn it off but dont burn the CPU, check the TEMPS first!!) He could also see if he has a way to run the CPU fan on high all the time, the lone Laptop I have has that option and it runs a lot cooler with the fan on high. My laptop turns out 2 WU's every 3:20 round the clock ... :)

AMD mobile chips, use throttling. Try bumping the priority (a low setting won't keep it out of that mode). It should help.

Still looking for something profound or inspirational to place here.
