Wiggo. this is important.
Rugby 7s. Australia won the bronze medal, easily overpowering Samoa 30-0. The Wallabies participated in the tournament’s most exciting game, a 21-19 come from behind victory over a stubborn Wales side, the winning try under the posts coming a full seven-minutes into the contest at the end of time.

I thought that someone here would've been interest in the old Commonwealth Games.

http://www.news.com.au/sport/commonwealth-games/commonwealth-games-2014-day-5-athletics-swimming-hockey-netball-and-much-more-with-plenty-of-aussies-in-action/story-fnnx3zsr-1227004866935 :-D

Oh my,....

Cheers.

Hi Wiggo,

::waves::

thank you for this thread :)

I hope you don't mind Wiggo ...

but a little trip down memory lane for me and the British Empire and Commonwealth Games 1954 in Vancouver Canada ... I was there :)

The Miracle Mile

Vancouver hosted the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in at Empire Stadium. The most famous event of the games was the One Mile Race in which both John Landy and Roger Bannister ran the distance in under four minutes. The race's end is memorialized in a statue of the two (with Landy glancing over his shoulder, thus losing the race), that stood outside the stadium until its demolition. The statue formerly stood near the site of the former stadium but since its demolition the statue has been moved to the Pacific National Exhibition entrance plaza at the intersection of Renfrew and Hastings Streets.

Empire Stadium was a multipurpose stadium that formerly stood at the Pacific National Exhibition site at Hastings Park in Vancouver. Track and field and Canadian football, as well as soccer and musical events, were held in the stadium. The stadium was originally constructed for the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

Empire Stadium is gone now ... and a park and smaller playing (sports) fields were restored for community use.

well to I remember the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in at Empire Stadium in Vancouver Canada I was there in 1954.

Best Wishes
Byron

betreger (and Wiggo), this is even more important:

The South African Sevens team produced a passionate and determined performance to write their names in the history books and win the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Sunday night.

In an epic final against defending champions New Zealand, they not only overcame a size advantage, but came from behind to play some exceptional rugby to grab their first gold at the Commonwealth Games in five attempts.

Their 17-12 victory meant that the Kiwis lost their first ever match in the Commonwealth Games, after going through the previous four Games unbeaten and winning gold on each occasion.

But this time they had to settle for silver as Neil Powell’s team showed some spirit to follow up their gold medal in the World Games in Colombia last year with this one – an even bigger achievement.

Given New Zealand’s domination not only at the Games but in the HSBC World Sevens Series, the task facing the Blitzbokke going into the final was a daunting one to say the least.

Not been taking too much notice, too busy watching this chap from Oz.

Ricciardo posted a picture of himself on Twitter with a bottle of champagne and the message: "Can't guarantee this guy's gonna remain sober for much longer this evening."

You can tell there in Scotland the medal have lots of big holes in them guess the Scotts could not afford solid gold now they are splitting away from the motherland and going it alone .

Or it could be just that's it's in Scotland and we all know how stingy the scotts are with there cash ..

not shore i like the design off them looks cheap

Chris i'm over 50 so i'm allowed to be as curmudgeonly as i wont . It's called being a grumpy old man hehehehehe

Still don't like the medals the silver looks gun barrel grey and when i've seen the athelets hold them up you can't tell which 1 is silver or bronze . I think they could have made the silver look silver at least

Well at almost 70 I can be downright bloody minded then :-))) Ooooh watch out Seti!

Silver can be a dull metal compared to chrome plating. But traditionally the Gold medal winner is in the middle, the Silver winner is to their right, and the Bronze medal to their left, if that helps any.

They have been designed by internationally renowned jeweller and maker Jonathan Boyd who worked with a team of eleven specialist jeweller-makers at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art (GSA) to hand make the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals through a series of complex and skilled processes meaning each one is truly unique.

I might agree if pushed that the design is, shall we say, a tad Art Nouveau revisited, but there we are.

I think they look more like astronomy or chemistry awards than sporting medals.

I see that Canada has pipped Scotland for 3rd spot and the Kiwis are making a move too.

I bet that some are glad that the swimming is over now. :-D

Cheers.
