Not so. Genetics favors dark coats over the rarer lighter ones.

Yes, now. But if more and more blonde and cinnamon raccoons survive to reproduce themselves because "cars" are largely eliminated as their "predators", then it is logical to assume that over time lighter coats on raccoons will become more common.

Thank you Miss Data. ;)

A dirty blond or a redhead would be okay here, but I'm not active, kind of hard to be when one is largely housebound... Who is also a Progressive Democrat...

Some weeks ago you may, or may not remember me posting pictures of squirrels in a park not far from me that are so tame the will even climb up your leg, and are the only squirrels in any of the parks I have visited that run towards you, all the others run away.

In fact this lot are so bad you only have to drop a peanut and you are surrounded.

So I decided to see if I can coax a squirrel or two from my local park to partake in a nut or two. Well for several days all I saw was the bushy tails of the local squirrels, retreating to safety.

Then yesterday I was able to get close enough to one to stand still, it watched me and for once when I threw the nut instead of running away it ran a grabbed it!! Success, of course what did it do with it.

Typical!!

However after burying that one it came slowly back towards me and waited. I threw another nut and this time it decided it was to eat. Ran up the tree and posed nicely for me. Peanut in hand!!

A small success but I am hoping that during the winter they will be hungry enough to take up my offers.

Oh yes they don't hibernate in winter, just sleep a lot!!

Years ago, Volunteer Park in Seattle had similar squirrels. They would be at (or on) your feet, for a few minutes. If you didn't feed them right away they moved on to the next human.

PS: People Who Know This Stuff tell me that squirrels don't hibernate here in Canada, at least not in the same way bears do. They may snooze for a day or three in really cold weather, but eventually they get up and look for food.

Here it is! And here I am! I photoshopped my face because my webcam is very, very
harsh. I un-harshed myself. But I'm stuck with the reflections caused by the
monitors. I'll have to remember from now on to take the exact same photo both
with and without my glasses. That way I can photoshop my eyes into my frames
thus eliminating the reflection.

Oh. I really like the shirt! (I'm still a little confused about the $17, though.)

The pink spots on my arms are the remnants of a bad case of ringworm I
got from the last kitten I rescued. It's all but gone now. (The ringworm,
not the kitten.)
