Hello Friends! Welcome to the 20th Episode of the Critter Cafe. This is a place where critter people come together to discuss whatever they wish. We have only two rules here - all are welcome and nothing is off topic. To start us off, here is a picture of a friend of many here. This photo of Spawnie was taken in our backyard in early June. |

To start us off, here is a picture of a friend of many here. You have a very nice garden Angela, about the only thing missing is a KOI pond with some large KOI in it, large cause of the raccoons. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Thank you for the new thread Angela:) She does indeed *glances over the overgrown vegetable patch that is now just called The Butterfly Garden in an attempt to justify the total lack of any actual gardening going on* Reality Internet Personality |

Thank you, Vic, Esme and Lynn, for the gardening compliments. Truth be told, our garden looked much better in early June than it does now. We have a severe drought going on here in California. My front yard is bone dry and very brown. My backyard is only marginally greener because I have been using water to grow some vegetables and to keep our fruit trees alive. In early June it was cooler and rain was not a distant memory. Now everything is brown and dying. ... *glances over the overgrown vegetable patch that is now just called The Butterfly Garden in an attempt to justify the total lack of any actual gardening going on* I have areas like that as well. I prefer to refer to them as "habitat restoration"... |

Thank you, Vic, Esme and Lynn, for the gardening compliments. LOL... I refer to the green space that is my yard as my 'little jungle'. A bit of amazon in the midst of the city. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Wisconsin is nice and green in the summer. Send some rain our way, please! We have some useless thunderstorms here, you can have them Angela, I wish I could transport them there, they do drop rain, I can smell rain when it's about to rain nearby or when the rain is here. No rain here today. Its very hot. I made some iced coffee to drink in the garden and took a picture of my "vegetable patch". If anyone can tell me what I have growing there I'd be curious. I'm really a city girl and I do not have a clue. This is the first garden I've ever had. Reality Internet Personality |

WEEDS?????? Did you plant anything or is this something that was there before like berry bushes. Idea for a new thread, What's in Es99's garden. Sorry, I just had to say it. |

WEEDS?????? I just see green growy stuff. I think the people who lived here before me grew vegetables there..but as you can see..well..I am going to go with your first assessment :D We are just wandering if I am growing some new dangerous invasive plants. It wouldn't surprise me. :D Reality Internet Personality |

WEEDS?????? Not real green here as of late. I last mowed the front lawn several weeks ago, and there has been very little vegetarian activity since. Combine that with the sewer construction work going on in front of my house, and it looks pretty rugged. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

WEEDS?????? I was raised in the city as well but my parents always had enough land to keep some type of garden going and they had all the free labor they could want. If you are interested in a garden that would require little care, you should look at square foot garden I used an older copy of the book but it greatly reduces the amount of work a garden takes and it has all the basics. |

WEEDS?????? LOL, looks like a good read. I have about 90 x 100 feet of backyard. All I lack is what is known as ambition. Of course, if Obama continues to trash our economy, I may have to resort to urban farming to have something to eat. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

WEEDS?????? 4 square yards a person would have you buried in vegetables unless you want to grow something like corn or head lettuce that take more room and grow very slow. With the amount of room you have you could grow as much as you want for two people and have room left over for flowers or anything else you might want. I only have a couple of 4 foot by 4 foot planters so far because I haven't fully got the Arizona climate down and there is little that will grow in the summer because of the heat. Take a half a day to set it up and a few minutes a week to care for it unless it needs some water and that's all. I had a automatic watering system connected to it at the same time I had my yard done because I knew there would be times I wouldn't be there to care for it. |

WEEDS?????? ooooh..looks really interesting. I'll see if I can get hold of a copy. I have been planning to build some raised flower beds. I am not sure what the soil is like, so I want to buy new soil for the beds, and that will be my biggest cost. The idea of putting in a watering system is a good idea. However, I am not sure how much trouble I want to go to as we rent and don't own this place. The problem here isn't so much the lack of rain, but too much rain. With raised beds I am thinking my veg aren't as likely to drown. Reality Internet Personality |
