Up Date!

We are so very grateful for the kind messages that we are getting on behalf of our health. Every one will be happy for us to hear that the low-down on LSM's knee is in. The news is good, the doctor says that she will improve with out drugs or surgery. LSM has been showing progress every day now, and soon she will be taking over from me with our every day chores. Apart from LSM's pain and discomfort, a happy side effect has been an increased mobility for myself.
We thank every one again for your concern for us.

LSM and celttooth

Awww :) That IS good news! So happy :)

Hi all, just a short check in. LSM will be trying
to make her first supper in a little bit to day. It is good
news for us as her knee is coming along very well in
deed. We are looking forward to a great Christmas.
We thank all for your kind support.

With James's permission, I have reopened this thread because I want to add something personally relevant to PTSD, and of course that is what this topic is about.

For anyone who followed the 1st PTSD thread, and I think there is a link to it at the beginning of this one, I identify with PTSD because of what happened last year with my mother's illness. I won't rehash it here, now, but as an update, I just wanted to add I have taken a leave of absence from my job to take care of my mother full-time, now. It's dangerous for her to be left alone for long periods of time due to her symptoms of dementia, and weak physical state. I will do whatever it takes to keep her in her house, healthy, safe, and happy. I just needed to briefly write down what is going on, here.

Make sure you take care of you, too. As you probably know, 24/7 caregiver is a very taxing job, and you will need an occasional break. If you haven't already, check with your local Health & Human Services Agency for Respite Care and/or Adult Daycare services, so you can get out and run errands, visit your own doctor/dentist, decompress, whatever.

And do drop by here. We've got lots of sympathetic ears, and towel-draped shoulders.....

I definitely plan to be online here a lot.

The problem with involving strangers from social service agencies is the simple fact they are strangers, and that is hard for my mother. I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible. My mother already refers to me as her husband and her mother, and asks me which Gordon am I. I can't muddy the water with strangers.

She is ok for a couple hours alone, but an 8 hour job was too much for me to be away. I think a lot of you have probably heard of sun-downer's syndrome; I think my mother has sun-rising syndrome - She wakes up very disoriented and anxious around 3 - 4 am, and I can't trust her to dispense her own anti-anxiety medication. I was a 3rd shifter(11 pm - 7 am). That was really the only shift that made sense, since she was asleep, but her early waking-up is too dangerous.

Gordan does she have freinds or neighbors who can help out?
I know your stance on doing what you can for your mom.
But there comes a point where you wont be able to do it by yourself.
When my dad was in the final stage of parkinsons. Us kids had to step in and help my mom. And at the end even that was getting hard to do. We had to call Hospice.

I know wht you are going through, My wifes step father has dementia. Hes getting worse. And its wearing my mother inlaw down. And she has heart problems.

And for all of you in here. If you want to post anything and the room is locked. Just hit that red X and tell a mod youd like to post.
No one needs to ask me to have it unlocked.

Yes, now I remember you mentioning that. My mother thought I was Dad a couple times near the end. Not always the easiest situation to handle.....

Sounds like you have a good handle on it for now. Hope things don't change too much too soon.......

I just can't psychologically take on in-home support. A nursing/assisted-living facility would kill me emotionally, and an in-home care person would make me too nervous. ~I'm not saying I'm hard to get along with, but I'm an only child and so is my mother, and we're both bull-headed. My father died in 1982, and I'm fiercely independent.

p.s. I don't know if my mother has "Dementia" or not. Whatever it is, it's a weird sort of confusion that sets in and lifts like a fog. Does it make me frustrated and want to run down the street, screaming sometime? Yes.

Oh, Gordon, I do that all the time, to the consternation of my neighbors....
