You are deflecting into confusion...

How so?

There is various "sharp" practice in business. Some business people are sharper than others

The same can be said for banks & other corporations.

Therein lies the rub! Do the Brands themselves do this or the people running them.

As the banking crisis proved, too many are attacking the brand names rather than going after the people that caused the problems in the first place.

At grass roots level, if Tesco's are doing a better deal than Asda, Sainsbury's or Morrison's, people will continue to shop with them. If not, they'll go elsewhere.

That will always be the case regardless of their "sharp" practices.

My local Tesco Express is always packed any time I shop there, it is also clean, light and tidy, which was more than could be said for the local Spar and Nisa shops.

And no it's not about price for me, but cleanliness and service, which has always been lacking in the so called "local shops".

That is down to the management & employees. My local Spar is a joy to shop at.

Nervous supermarkets left with miles of aisles they don't want

Tesco and Asda raced to add retail space for two decades. Now the shoppers have all gone elsewhere

Interesting. How much is the toilet paper? With 4 men in the house, the savings on toilet paper might be worth the membership alone.

They don't seem to have the Kirkland Signature brand up on http://www.costco.com Not sure if they use the same or a different site for Canada.

I know a large part of the Costco business in Bellingham is Canadian. The TP is about 1/2 price from the supermarket as is the milk.

Then their beef prices are amazingly less. In many cases I can't even find comparable quality in a super here. They simply no longer sell the high quality product Costco does at any price, choosing instead to sell an ungraded product. Last time I was able to compare graded products, "select" at the super was running 3X "choice" at Costco. For those outside USA, Beef Grades. The ungraded beef, "Ranchers Pride" or "Butchers Reserve" and other trade names, sold in chain supers today would mostly grade standard or commercial.

They didn't have the toilet paper listed at all on the Canada site. There is one not far from us, maybe I'll go and scout out the prices. We usually just wait until it goes on deal somewhere.

Now I am intrigued at whether the milk is cheaper. We get through a 4 litre jug every couple of days. I think they wash in it.

IIRC I paid $4.49 USD for 2 Gal of non-fat last Monday. For you who use metric, like I wish we did, that is a bit over 15 liters.

US minimum milk prices are regulated and vary a lot from place to place.

How's this for first class PR?

Doesn't get any better for Tesco

BBC

The FT says that this probe will also look at all the supermarket chains, not just Tesco.

Tesco's are just as bad as the utility companies digging up roads...

...see this situation at least once a week since they announced their closures...

Ghost Tesco stores

...Chatteris was a lovely little rural town, now it's a mess!

One would think another chain would be glad they're gone, but no, the Co-Op is also closing down!
