There are only 2 airplane hazardous geographic zones on this planet that caused with tons of reasons For the United States, the reason is given in the article where that graphic is located: "The high amount of accidents in the United States can be primarily attributed to the massive volume of aviation traffic in the country." It would be interesting to see the statistics normalised against something like the number of flights undertaken, or distance or time flown. |

From what I know of American airlines it's cost cutting at airlines and airports . The mighty dollar is king in the states and safety comes second . And you have to remember other Airlines also fly in the states and don't have the same amount of accidents . Just have to look at Heathrow airport or any of the 1's in Europe that have the same amount of airtraffic |

Sorry I have to disagree with you on that Qantas has not flown on that route for several months safety of passengers is number 1 at Qantas and why in the 80 odd yrs they have never lost 1 plane ever Technically that is true. However, this area has not been declared a war zone or no fly zone, and so far the rebels had mostly been using weapons with a limited range. In general, passenger airplanes fly at such high altitudes that they are out of range of most of the anti air weapons used in most conflicts. This plane was shot down by some seriously heavy military equipment. Yes you can argue that if they wanted to be absolutely safe, they would have avoided it. But this basically comes down to risk assessment on one of the most popular routes to Asia. The airline, most airlines had until now considered the risk of any planes getting shot down to be minimal. I can't blame them for that assessment. |

And you have to remember other Airlines also fly in the states and don't have the same amount of accidents . I believe that graphic includes foreign airlines. It shows the total number of fatal airline accidents in each country, irrespective of the carrier. |

I can't blame them for that assessment I will . they should have thought about there reputation . I ask you this how much is a clean safety record worth ?? Even British Airlines has lost it's shine in the last few decades because of planes going down and they also had a dam good record . There risk assessment is tainted simply because of money so as far as I am concerned there risk assessment is worth Jack .... I am shore they could absorb the extra cost of the fuel as the plane was pretty full 298 can't have been many if any seats empty |

I will . they should have thought about there reputation . I ask you this how much is a clean safety record worth ?? Yeah, if you judge the risk of getting your plane shot down to be next to nothing, why would you avoid it? Like I said, the airspace was not restricted, and the air traffic controller organization had deemed the route to be safe enough. And since the conflict broke out months ago, planes have flown over this area quite a lot and this is the first time those rebels shot down a passenger plane. All this talk that they should have know that it was unsafe is talking in hindsight. Had this not happened, planes would still be flying over that region and this discussion would have never taken place and nobody would have accused any airline of risking their passengers safety over money. |

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that he holds Ukraine responsible for the plane crash. - There is no doubt that the country on whose territory the terrible tragedy occurred responsibility, he said according to the Russian news agency Ria Novosti. Russian LifeNews inadvertently told the truth about downed Malaysian airline http://khpg.org.ua/en/index.php?id=1405634995 Thanks Halya Coynash for your articles in Kyiv Post:) Donbass commander Strelkov [Igor Girkin] in Donetsk 'Peoples' Republic stated: 17.07.2014 17.50 “In the vicinity of Torez we just downed an AN-26 plane, it’s lying somewhere behind the Progress Mine. We warned them – don’t fly “in our sky†|

It is looking more and more like the plane was shot down by Russian backed Ukrainian rebels using a Russian supplied weapon. So for Putin to try to shift the blame on the Ukraine for opposing Russia in the conflict is pure BS. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Our PM is very pissed off with the Russian Embassy and it sounds like the may have told him off ozzy stileHe was on CNN live last night and yes he is POed. It's about time the rest of the world woke up. Australia has a seat on the security council so I hope we use it to it's fullest .Russia has a permanent seat so forget about it. Just goes to show you if you fly and want to be 100% shore you will get there don't cheap out on a 3rd rate Airline go with the only company that has never ever lost a plane QANTUS the flying KangarooIn the movie Rain Man that is the only airline he would fly because "Quantus never crashed". Sorry I have to disagree with you on that Qantas has not flown on that route for several months safety of passengers is number 1 at Qantas and why in the 80 odd yrs they have never lost 1 plane everAmerican planes couldn't fly in the area because the FAA had made it a no fly zone. Maybe US knew something. But this basically comes down to risk assessment on one of the most popular routes to Asia. The airline, most airlines had until now considered the risk of any planes getting shot down to be minimal. I can't blame them for that assessment.US planes could not fly over that area. It wasn't worth it to save a few gallons of fuel. |

More on the tragic loss of the AIDS researchers. And that extends the tragedy to much more of humanity than just those lost on the flight. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

More on the tragic loss of the AIDS researchers.Obama just mentioned the 100 researchers. Why were there so many on one flight? Did they have a conference in Holland before heading to OZ? I question the wisdom of putting so many eggs in one basket; especially a basket over a war zone. Obama just said our military will continue to do what it is doing; cheering on our European allies. |

What allies? We will soon see as US are not going to be the tip of the spear. I just saw a picture on CNN of a buk launcher heading back to Russia with one rocket missing. Oh yes we are going to get a fair and honest investigation. US will leave it with you'z guy'z. |

Yes the rest of the world are waking up to the US... "The United States has concluded a missile shot down the plane, but hasn't pinpointed who was responsible, a senior U.S. official told CNN's Barbara Starr." So after a lengthy chinwag, they conclude it was shot down! Radar trace? Satellite images? If either, then they can pinpoint the location from where it was fired from & conclude which side launched it. Was that senior official Military or political? |

Was that senior official Military or political? Was that "senior official" senior? or official? As to the evidence, likely the NSA/CIA telephone intercept program. Doubt they have radar, too far for line of sight from international airspace. |
