As for the 'condemnation' from the rest of the Islamic world, most countries are not supporting Hamas or the Palestinians in this. Doesn't sound like they approve of Hamas firing rockets at Israel.

Makes one wonder then why the West is crying "foul" against Israel.

Because of the poor and innocent Palestinian children who are the victims of this war.

The West isn't crying foul against Israel. There hasn't been a single American or European government that has stated that Israel does not have the right to defend itself. The closest thing to crying foul from the West is saying they shouldn't bomb UN schools when they know there are refugees hiding in them. Really, we should stop pretending like its on gigantic pile up against Israel because that is really not the case.

There has, to my knowledge, only been one country that has completely condemned Israel and that is Bolivia who has suspended a visa agreement with Israel and called Israel a 'terrorist state'.

Probably the only hope that we have for the Islamic world to stop preaching violence to all who disagree with them is when the Wives and Mothers start telling the men to start "Acting like men".

Excellent statement & one I agree with. However, that is the main issue with the Muslim world! Why do you think they keep their women covered & treated as second class citizens?

I fear that the whole telling men to start acting like them is part of the problem. Masculinity is linked to violence far to often in far to many cultures.

As for the 'condemnation' from the rest of the Islamic world, most countries are not supporting Hamas or the Palestinians in this. Doesn't sound like they approve of Hamas firing rockets at Israel.

I said acting like men, because for the most part these Hamas terrorists are actually cowards, and even the rest of the Islamic world are beginning to recognise that as well.

Just shows you didn't bother to read those quotes you replied too earlier, the last line reads,
“Gazans are not men,” he declared. “If they were men they would revolt against Hamas.”

The West isn't crying foul against Israel.

Most of the Belgians I know cry foul against Israel because of the reason I posted below. Good thing there's a truce now, maybe people will stop and think for a moment over there, at least we can always hope they do...

The thing is that while a lot of people cry foul, this sentiment is almost never echoed to any real significant extend by the governments of those people. And in cases like this, its what governments say that matters. The entire world might call for an end to whats happening in Gaza, as long as no governments puts that into its policy its not gonna happen. As long as ambassadors aren't kicked out of the country, as long as there aren't any trade embargo's, Israel can safely continue doing what it is doing right now.

I mean, just look at the US. Its trying to get a cease fire, but it has absolutely no leverage over Israel. It doesn't dare to cease support to Israel or in any other way take measures that would actually hurt Israel because thats political suicide, so the US can ask Israel what it wants, but Israel doesn't have to listen.

This, I think, is one of the most honest and appropriate responses to the massacre in Gaza. At least there is hope for some of humanity.

A nice easy non violent solution...

Buffer Zone

No rockets, no shelling, no aircraft, just needs a bulldozer & a small amount of explosive.

...Start up bulldozer, dig wide & deep along that buffer zone, at each end when ditch dug, detonate the explosives having the Mediterranean Sea flood it...

...no more tunnels no more blockades as Gaza can be supplied by sea.

Job done!

Ok. Now I understand.

Israel = NAZI Germany (some posts comparing).

Saying that Hamas, and The Jihadists, who continually make NAZI like statements: Means the person who compares THEM to Their Hero(s): Is also a NAZI! (Another posting)

We DO understand the Foundation of these Poster's belief(s).

The tide is turning against them (I hope).

The Jewish People are FINALLY fighting back against this EVIL, and it will be ugly (as it always is).

The Jewish People are ignoring the protester's who support, or apologize for, this NAZI LOVING EVIL.

Thank God!

It seems to me that you are one of those that believe that Israel can do no wrong because to criticise Israel is to somehow support Nazism. Yet you don't understand that the Nazi's came to power because of people like you who did not speak out when something so obviously wrong and terrible was happening.

Is it because the victims are not white that you are struggling so much to feel any empathy for them?

Do you have any idea how irritating and destructive comments like this are?

Perhaps if people dropped the macho BS we might actually get somewhere.

Macho B/S? Who was it that stated that most here are war mongers?

Have you ever been shot at?
Have you ever seen bullets strike?
Have you seen a bomb go off?

I have to all 3 & believe me, it's very unnerving to say the least. Now place those images in your mind as you take your daily walk/drive to school/work/shopping, not pleasant to experience is it - day in day out!

When do you say enough is enough?

All I'm seeing on this thread are statistics. Regardless of how many die on each side & whether or not the Palestine's suffer the most, people are killed FULL STOP!

This crap about proportionate responses is also crap! Conflict breaks out & it's best stopped ASAP. If not, then one side or the other has to be the victor/vanquished otherwise as seen to date it just potters along, as this morning's break of the truce shows...

...90 minutes, that's got to be the shortest ceasefire yet!

One interesting point about those tunnels...

...that's a lot of cabling in those photos seen so far, more than likely stolen BUT just who is paying for all that power? Why isn't it switched off?

+1

Obvious the side breaking it didn't want it in the first place. No point in attempting to broker one if neither side wants it.

Well Israel did bomb the only Gaza power plant. But there is still some power coming from Israel and Egypt. Hamas makes sure it is routed to the tunnels rather than civilians refrigerators. As you know killing Jews is far more morally imperative than the needs of your own civilian populace.

I can see that you want to wipe all of GAZA of the map.
How sad you seem.
No empathy.
Just stating wipe all "EVIL" out.
It doesn't really sound that it does matter who "EVIL" are.

Pardon my eyes!

Hi Winterknight :) this is the link to your post on Egypt

and my response :)

...did I just blink and miss something?

Egypt is ranked in the worst ten countries for jailing journalists, and is considered the third most dangerous country for journalists to operate in. Al Jazeera have three in prison now - one for picking up a spent bullet that had been fired at peaceful protestors.

Are you sure we can trust these bastions of free speech? The Egyptian penal code provides for fines and imprisonment for criticisms of the president, members of government, and Egypt's elite... and they're all such a dreadfully sensitive lot... :/ ok maybe less so than Kim Jong whatjdgemacallit of the bad haircut... but maybe being a real man in Egypt (and being unarmed - a bit like most of the men in Gaza) is more about returning to your wife and family each evening and hoping to be there for them should they need protecting.

Freedom House has tracked political developments in Egypt for the last year and they're not too impressed by all accounts :/ By the government’s own estimates, more than 16,000 people have been swept into jail since the coup and that number is probably low. They are NOT all Muslim Brotherhood members. Nor do the figures include deaths in custody. In addition, at least 2,500 have been killed in clashes with the government, including up to 1,400 in the largely peaceful demonstration at Rabaa Square. Torture and abuse in prison continue unabated.

On the per capita figures however, Egypt doesn't look anywhere near as bad as Israel I give you that... :) Second only behind Eritrea, Israel has the dubious distinction of having imprisoned more journalists than Iran.

So I do hope no one minds if I continue getting my news from a wider range of sources than Egypt, even though their press might be a little freer and therefore more reliable than say... Iran and... who was it again...? :) Having said all that, I am deeply saddened by the rise in anti-semitic attacks both in this country and elsewhere :( And of course that includes rockets fired by Hamas. But pointing out a different way of handling the situation where justice can prevail rather than be dashed, and where landgrab stops, is NOT anti-semitic.

@Sirius... re the 500lb gorilla :) I will be back with some bananas for it in a while :)

Clyde... are you alright? :)

Did you misunderstand my question?
I tried to phrase it in terms you yourself used.

I'm referring specifically to this bit:
Israel = NAZI Germany (some posts comparing)

Is that your answer?

I HAD expected something along the lines of: Israeli's criticising their own government is acceptable - but anyone else who does is "nazi-loving" so I must say I was rather taken aback by your response - if it was a response? :) aren't rigid blanket one-size-fits-all generalisations SUCH a pain to escape from peoples :) Of course I'm still waiting for an answer to my "how" question (I think) :)

And then there's the one I asked Sirius (quite a while ago now) about Malawi once being Nyasaland etc :) but I AM patient... I can wait... :) and wait... :)

I THINK they ARE answerable... :)
