I'm new to the BOINC project. I'm currently running it on WinXP with the GUI.

I've noticed two things about setting which preferences to use:

1. I can't find a GUI option for setting which profile to use for this BOINC instance.

2. In the messages, it says that it is using the home prefs. However, my home prefs are set so that the BOINC client shouldn't do any computing until the computer has been idle for 10 minutes. However, the client still activates the computation even when I'm using my computer. Yes, the client is set to use the prefs.

I understand that I can edit the XML file to change my location, but that's not desirable in my opinion.

Also, its quite annoying that the client doesn't care or doesn't know about my preferences for the "home" profile.

Does anyone have a good solution or work-around for the last problem? I guess the first problem needs to be adressed by the developers.

1) Choose a "venue" for each machine under "My Computers" from a project user page. Several people have suggested that this be an option though the GUI, and the devs are looking into it.

2) A known problem that supposedly will be fixed in a future release of the CoreClient (v4.xx?) Each time you conneect to whatever project you manage your preferences from, they get set back to default.
