Is anyone else having trouble with Windows 7 this morning?

When I first got up, I got on my netbook and it had several "Windows [whatever] has stopped working" boxes. I dismissed each of them and it seemed to work fine. No big deal.

But a bit later, I sat down at my Vista laptop, which was fine. The first thing I did with that was TeamViewer into my Win7 cruncher, and it had all the same messages as the netbook. I told that one to restart before I proceeded.

Two Win7 boxes with the same problems on the same day seems odd. The Vista not having those problems almost seems odder.

Waiting for me: 7 important recommended updates, 3 optional ones. They can wait somewhat longer. :)

I don't have any systems set to auto update, but I would imagine that it has something to do with at least one of the updates from Patch Tuesday.

If a reboot doesn't make them happy you might need to start removing the most recent updates one at a time to see which ones borked it.

I'm showing 11 Total Updates available. One is for IE 11, one is Malicious Software Removal Tool, another is for Outlook 2007 Junk e-Mail Filter. Five are Security Updates, and three are just Updates. (All for Win 7 Home Premium, x64.)

Broken down:

Security: KB2961072, KB2971850, KB2972280, KB2973201, KB2973351

Updates: KB2952664, KB2966583, KB2973337

IE 11 Sec. Update: KB2962872

Windows Mal. Soft. Rem. Tool, July 2014: KB890830

Outlook 2007 Junk e-Mail Filter: KB2883030

Not everyone has Office 2007; so, that leaves 10 Updates to go through. Good luck, David, finding which one it is. (Or, perhaps a combination of two or more...)

Please let us know what you find...

Both my rigs updated yesterday without any problems, but no Office updates here.

Cheers.

Did the same updates yesterday on a Win7 (x64) Ultimate with no problems. As usual, recycled the machine immediately after the updates completed.

I always wait a week or two, before adding them to my main machine. Have been doing that ever since Microsoft released a new kernel that broke a lot of Windows machines, including mine.

mm I got updates to but tomorrow

You probably did to many at once while Seti was going by the look of the updates better to update with Seti shutdown for the few minutes it takes malicious software can take a while depending on the machine and if there's a problem

Always set Updates to ..

Notify but let me choose when and if to download or install

Thanks Bob and Cliff. That's what I wanted to hear. I just finished updating two of three Win 7 machines here. The third is still off site with my dad; so, I'll get to that one later.

Good luck David. :-)

Just finished updating my two win7 boxes. I did one of them about 8 hours ago and just finished doing the other. No weirdness out of either one here.

Except one of the updates undid the changes I made a long time ago to forcefully disable IPv6. Just a simple registry entry to put back in-place and a reboot fixed that again.

I guess I neglected my own thread here. I don't let anything autoupdate, and I had not updated anything immediately before this problem came up.

Anyway, it has not repeated, so I'm not worrying about it anymore.

I do always accept security updates, but I always check out others to see if I really need them.
