I just think that to spend 80 odd years on this earth and not leave a permanent marker somewhere that you existed is a bit sad. Nobody is putting me in the ground I am being cremated, but hopefully there will be some evidence somewhere that I passed by, did whatever, and moved on. Hardly much point bothering otherwise.

Maybe that's what I am doing here, Chris.
Seti shall be my marker.
Does it make a little more sense now?

The only problem is, the funeral and burial is not paid for, and that is ridiculously expensive. The funeral parlors want to sell you gold caskets, and impermeable vaults. I've told them to just throw me in the hole, but even that isn't without a price. ~They charge for digging it, and filling it, plus there's the stone on top. I don't mean to sound that negative; it's just a racket industry that plays/preys on a lot of people.

Any business will try to sell you the most expensive product they think you can afford - that's just good business. But the impermeable vaults are, in the USA at least, required by law or government regulation. Something about groundwater polution and disease control. And yes, nothing in life, or death, is truly free. The gravedigger has to feed his family.....

I am working on getting a marker stone for Squirrel.
After 18 years and 8 months of total devotion to me, I think it's the least I can do for her.

I suppose it's more for me than for her.
I do go back to the back yard and talk to her every now and then.
I am sure the neighbor wonders once in a while who I am talking to back there...LOL.

No matter how many more years the Lord grants me to stay on this earth, that kitty shall always be by my side.

I do see the point about groundwater contamination. In fact, I'm surprised they didn't use that in their sales tactics. They gave me three choices on the concrete liner the casket goes into, and I sneered at the idea, saying nothing is permanent, and am going with the cheapest one, and a pine casket. I do plan to have a hat placed on my head, as I think that's a classy way to go. ;~}

Mark, I totally understand, and will want the same for my two rabbits when they pass away.

This is where I think I can get one for a reasonable cost.
I am sure they have some for rabbits.

Well, those certainly are reasonable prices to me, but I think I'll look locally first, even though a custom-made stone done locally would probably be more expensive. I honestly don't know where the local pet cemeteries are, but like you, I want my friends close to me, so my mom's backyard is where they'll be when that time comes. My house's backyard is too small, and I will be spending most of my time at my mom's when I finally get her home from the hospital, and it's really my real home, too, since I was born and raised there.

The finality of my kitty passing was a hard thing for me to grasp.
I don't think I have really processed it all even yet.

I have her 3 stepsisters here and it is gonna kill me when the first one of them goes.

Tigger II has been getting rather clingy.
And that is what Squirrel did when she was preparing.
They know. Animals just know.
As Joan Baez once sang, they just prepare.

Bandit and Purrball seem to be OK, but Tigger II is starting to tell me something I don't wish to hear. I can see in her eyes that she is getting sad.
Not a good thing to see in a kitty.
Maybe I am wrong.. I pray that I am.

I understand. I don't like the passage of time, the older I get. I'm working on slowing things down. I'll share the secret if and when I find it.

No matter what I may accomplish with what time I may have left, when the Great Book Of Life is written, I'm not even going to make a footnote!

(Rather freeing, actually...)
