I started doing this "way back when" when Windows 98 was common and Seti was a screen saver.

I not sure but I may have even run it as a TSR ms-dos screen saver? Does anyone else remember? I am sure I ran it as a Windows 98 screen saver in conjunction with my bbs machine(s).

I wonder if anyone has some pictures of what it looked like then?

Something like http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/screensaver/index.html?

If I recall, there was a way to run it continuously with work prefetches. This may be what you were thinking of as a TSR. I don't really remember if it was a TSR or not.

That was the screensaver that got me hooked. A good friend of mine was running it on his systems; he had DSL as an internet connection then, I only had dial up at that time. Thus, I didn't get involved with the project until MUCH MUCH later.

This friend no longer crunches; due to work constraints, but, hopefully, one day he will return. He never did get onto the boards and talk with anyone, though. When I connected to the project in 2006, I got hooked on the project, and the boards, right away. I haven't looked back; even though I took an extended break for awhile, my heart was always here. I hope to crunch for a long LONG LONG time. :-)

I had that screensaver on my original iMac. I remember I signed up for SETI the day after I got online and got my first email address.
