Police brutality or police brutality?

This news is just plain sickening. I just saw it on the morning TV news and also found it on my regular news website.

California Highway Patrol officer filmed repeatedly punching black woman in roadside beating.

Passing Driver David Diaz recorded the Tuesday incident and provided it to media outlets.

He said on Friday that he arrived as the woman was walking off the freeway. He said she turned around only after the officer shouted something to her.

“He agitated the situation more than helped it,” said Mr Diaz, who started filming soon after.

The officer is on administrative leave while the patrol investigates. He has not been identified.

The video caught the attention of local civil rights leaders, who expressed shock and outrage at their own news conference.

The video if you're game to watch it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcCN5C7UBx0

They're suppose to protect people, but who protects people against them?

I certainly hope that this fellow spends time behind bars.

I also wasn't to happy about the person filming laughing at this incident either. :-(

Very sick indeed :(

Did the woman receive medical care??

Who was the man who came by to help??

The officer is on administrative leave while the patrol investigates. He has not been identified.

He should not be paid. Prosecuted beyond the law.

The woman is presently confined on a 5150, or investigation of being a danger to herself or others. It is said she was uninjured. Police work is not always pretty.

Far to early to make judgements, except I'm rather certain the officer prevented a suicide.

As to the laughing, that was the sound of going to the bank, George Holliday style.

There has been speculation the woman is mentally ill and homeless. This kind of institutional behavior is all too frequent. Our society does not fund the resources these people need and does not fund the training the police need to properly deal with them.

after seeing the vid and reading the article sounds sus the family have not been allowed to see her and now she is in a metal hospital .

Reminds me of a episode of Underbelly back in the 30's I think it was .

when women where diagnosed as hysterical or something like that and locked up in metal hospital for speaking out .The coppers back then did exactly what this guy has done beat up a woman and now the cover up by saying she is a nutter .Only it's the 21st century and this shit should have bin stamped out years ago .

But then you only have to watch the realty shows about worst jails in U.S to see not much has changed

The same in this country as well, but even if it was an Aussie cop I'd post him up just as quickly. These people are suppose to set an example to others, what type example is this setting?

No there isn't. But was this?

At least I'm glad none of you are in the potential jury pool for any court actions on this case. Frankly none of you should be in any potential jury pool. You have all prejudged the events based on a few seconds of video without knowing anything that happened before, or any explanation from both sides, or seen any doctor's reports or any forensic reports.

I might get called as a juror on this. Seriously. I know not to judge before all the evidence in presented.

Also have one person's post hidden, so I have no idea what it says.

As an 'Expert' (20 years Law Enforcement - 7 Years Patrol, in Uniform, New York City - in the very violent 1970's) let me give my opinion.

Usually I have/will give Police the 'benefit of the doubt'. People really don't understand the Officer doesn't know if he/she will survive, or be seriously harmed, during the situation. The threat may be subtle, but imminent

However, in THIS situation: I would like to hear this Officer's explanation. I cannot explain it.

With that big white bag between the camera and the event, there are possible explanations. I also know that the officer may not have felt safe using a taser there due to the proximity to the roadway edge.

As this was under active investigation before the video came out, and this being the CHP and not the LAPD or LASD I think the truth will be found. Also I don't know if that officer had MVARS but all CHP wear wireless mikes. It won't be swept under the rug.

The perjury and filing false reports is worse than the beating. He should have choked her out or pepper sprayed her.

You people sound like you did after the Rodney King beating. You got to police that way before cell phone cameras but it's all over now. Detective Fuhrman, did you ever use the "N" word? As I said perjury is the worse crime, ask Clinton or Nixon.

What ever happened to proportionate response. You don't beat someone senseless simply because that person doesn't listen. And aren't cops trained to take someone down quickly and swiftly, without having to beat someone into submission first?
