Winning with no hip pain...I stretched the hell out of it with my wife's help. Almost had me in tears at one point but it's good now

Bummer, I get to sit around here and stare at 4 walls, My TV lamp quit, I'll be able to buy a replacement on August 1st and no sooner as I don't have enough in My credit line to order a new one with. I know of at least one person will be dancing with demented glee at this.

Oh boy, what a Sunday.

Offered to take my friend Mike to the museum with me. He hasn't seen 1630 since it started running again. But he just got back from a 2 week train trip Friday night and got very little sleep, so he was too tired to go.

Then, half way to Union, my Check Engine light started flashing. When I stopped, it was idling very roughly. I checked the manual and it said when the light flashes, it means something is wrong with the emissions system and I have reduced power. I went the rest of the way there slower than usual, and all the way back.

The day at the museum was fine. I worked the second car of the coach train. The conductor of the CTA L train was recruited to also work the first car of ours. Decent crowd for a non-special event day, acceptable weather. Only mishap was that a span wire supporting the trolley wire broke and we couldn't go past it, but it was down at 4-Mile Switch, so we got most of the trip, and that was on the last trip. The last trip was only a few people, so we put them all in the last car and I cleaned up the first two and closed their windows while we were out. Meanwhile, the Internal Combustion guys were firing up and testing all the stuff they plan to run next week for Diesel Days. That included their newest toy, just donated a few days ago by Union Pacific (with a full tank of fuel!), a former Cotton Belt B40-8. It's a mere 25 years old and the first unit in our collection with electronic fuel injection.

On the way home, I called Mike and invited myself to his house for a while. It turned out another friend had done the same, so we sat out back for a few hours. Then I limped the car home. Say what you like about computer-run cars, but it never stalled once; without the computer, I'm sure it would have as rough as it was running.

This morning, after sleeping late, I called the service guy at the Chevy dealer and told him about the new problems. He said to bring it in and he'd have to get me a rental until he has a loaner available. After a nap, I did, and ended up with a Suburban. They were going to give me a Malibu, but I didn't want that. The Suburban is costing me $10/day over what my extended warranty will pay. The thing may be huge, but it's just as tight inside as anything else I've driven lately. It will be at least Friday, maybe next Monday, before they can even get my car in to look at it. I have to return the Suburban and get a dealer loaner on Thursday or so.

In the next post, I'll tell you about the cat box.

Ping!
David
