TL,

Sorry, they actually had me doing WORK!! Can you imagine!! Anyway, Robert is correct. Locate the app_info.xml and then right click. Move the cursor to open with and then select notepad. It should then open the file. Since this is app_info.xml there are 2 ways to do this.

You might want to copy the app_info.xml and save it someplace other than boinc folder just in case something goes wrong.

1) Open the file and then rename the file as app_config.xml and save. Now there are 2 distinct files and you haven't touched the original in any way other than looked at it. Keeping the new file open(hopefully you haven't closed it yet), you can now delete everything in it and copy the app_config.xml that I listed here in that file and resave it as the before saved app_info.xml. Option 2) (which is more time consuming) open the app_info as above and you will have to scan thru it to the various astropulses listed and the various Seti@home versions (32,42, 50) that are listed and everywhere it says <avg_ncpus> some number </ave_ncpus> and below that <max_ncpus) some number <max_ncpus> change that to however much of a cpu you want each work unit to get. Either 0.5 or 1 your preference. Moving further down it will then say <type>cuda</type> and below that <count>some number</count> this is where you tell it how many work units to run 1 is 1 0.5 will be 2 work units 0.33 will be 3 work units and so on. You will have to do this for all the astropulses and all setiathome_v7. After you get all of it set to the values you want, you will have to save it as the app_info.xml This will replace the original. After you have done this, you will want to restart Boinc ( I usually restart my computer as sometimes old info is still someplace and my changes don't take effect unless I do). After a reboot, restart Boinc and see if it now loads. (sometimes it says there's an error or permissions have been changed) if that is the case, reinstall boinc. That usually corrects the problem. It will not affect the app_info or app_config files. Now see if Boinc launches and seti starts up and has loads as you have specified

OK, without modifying the app_info.xml, I created the app_config.xml and copied Zalster's info. into that file. I saved the file in the SETI Project's Folder with app_info.xml. Will this work? or is there something else that I must do to get two MB's to crunch at a time... I only want one AP crunching at a time; because, I only have a dual core CPU.

TL, without any changes it should just run 1 ap per gpu or 2 MB per gpu. You might want to lower the value of 0.5 to 0.04 in the Multibeam area as you are using an intel. I have mine higher at 0.5 since I find the amd need to support the GPU more. It should work

I'm not on Intel, Zalster, I'm on an AMD A6-6400K. Do I need to change anything for that?

[EDIT]

I copied the app_info.xml file to another location. The original is still in the BOINC Projects Folder/SETI Folder.

It's preference on how much of the chip you want the GPU to use. For my AMD I find that I need to give it a little more than the 0.04 that lunatics gives it, which is why I have it set for 0.5 You don't need to have it that high, but that is what I use (Operator's preference) Leave it for now and see how it does. After say 20 or so MB you can play with the value and see what works best for your set up in relations to how long it takes to complete a work unit. Note all the times to completion are going to look very long. It takes a while for the computer to get a correct estimate, why I said 20 or so.

OK, I restarted BOINC. Unfortunately, due to a few E@H units due 7/1, BOINC just went into "High Priority" for E@H. I will monitor and wait for SETI to restart crunching.

I do notice one change, already, the times estimated for crunching SETI WU's has gone UP, NOT DOWN... Original estimates for most of my MB's were 8 Min.; now, they are at one hour and 46 Min. I'm still on CUDA50; as this was a valid selection when installing Lunatics, and my card being a GTX760 on the latest driver was handling CUDA50 quite well at 8 Min. per WU. Will my estimates drop to "normal"???

[EDIT]

NOTE TO SELF: I should have read Zalster's last post more clearly... He does state that times will go up... :-O ;-)

It will go up TL, but it should come back down again though not as much as you had before. Doing 2 tasks at the same time will take more time to do each task, but you will get more tasks done per day.

Cheers.

Wiggo's right, the time to complete will probably be slightly longer but you will be doing more work units per day. Example say you were doing 7 work units in an hour (8 minute each avg.) then you might end up doing 18-20 in an hour ( 2 work units every 10 minutes). That is just a rough estimate since we still don't know yet how long it will take to process them. Let them run for a day or so until they level out.

Thanks guys. I hope that this works... I haven't had Lunatics installed since 2006 with my K6-2, 350's... Those were the days!!! Three of those machines crunching, plus a Pentium III, 600, and an Athlon 1 GHz system. The K6-2's still took about 30 Hours to complete a SETI Enhanced WU, if I remember right. I can't wait to see what I can do with this GTX760... :-)

Well, it isn't crunching two WU's at a time, yet; it is still only crunching one at a time. In the above Event Log, I've highlighted areas in red that I have questions on; are these normal for having Lunatics installed?

I assume that it must go through the existing list of WU's labelled as "Setiathome V7 7.00 CUDA50" and then download new WU's utilizing the Anonymous platform from Lunatics, and then it will crunch two WU's at a time. Am I right, or wrong here???

Thanks, again, guys. :-)

P.S. WU's still crunching in 8.25 Min. to 8.5 Min. one at a time. That is good, at least. :-)

Oh, it's getting frustrating, isn't it?

What do you *want* to run on what processors?

For right now, do this, please:

Stop BOINC and all its running processes.

Go back to your Lunatics installer.

Install it.

Right after that, without changing anything else, copy the following, paste it into a notepad document, save it as app_config.xml into your project data folder. Don't edit it or try to optimize it. Yes, there are lines and entries you don't need and there may even be something you do need that's missing; just copy it and put it in your project data directory. If it doesn't work the way you want it to, we'll cope.

<app_config>
<app>
<name>setiathome_v7</name>
<max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.48</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.04</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
<app>
<name>astropulse_v6</name>
<max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>.50</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>.5</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

AFTER you do that, please copy and post your app_info.xml here and stand-by. If you can do it soon enough, we'll get this straightened-out pronto.

These are the 3 lines that stick out for me. Those files are necessary to run the cuda 50's and the astropulses. So my guess is that none of the files were installed. I may be wrong but I'd reinstall the lunatics and the reboot the computer and see if it takes effect. Also, move the app_config.xml to another folder while you do the reinstall then place it back into the Boinc data folder afterwards just in case to prevent it getting deleted. After the reboot launch Boinc and lets see if it finally changes. Post the event log again so we can see if it takes hold. If anyone else has any ideas plus post them.

Zalster

just saw the above post, do as he suggest with the app_config.xml and reinstall the lunatics

I just did. We're going to solve this, pretty-much now. It's just not that hard.

The problem at this point is that we've gone so far that I'm not sure where we're starting-from.

So, we start at first principles and move-on. The problem, now, is that there are at least three different versions of AstroPulse included in different installers, so the only way I know how to find-out where we are, for sure, is to start-over.

I'm guessing you gave-up and went to bed.

I've got to do likewise.

We'll get this straightened-out and once we do you'll understand what you are doing and won't have any more problems getting your new machine to act like you want it to.

Optimizing it exactly for the mix of projects and work you want may take a while, but it's doable.

Chin up.

Say "hi" to K-9.

Somebody remind that on the next installer I double the size of the line that says where you can download it...

I've no idea what you did TL, because those lines wouldn;t be there if the app_info.xml was the one I carefully put together for the installer ;)

I'm short on time guys, somebody please drop me a note, when there's a work_fetch_debug for me to interpret.

What?

So we can read where to download it after we've installed it?

Huh?

But did YOU do the last installer?

Very nice.

I've used it many times and always admired it.

Problem is, I think there are old versions still downloadable out there and the easiest way to tell which new version he has is to look at what it installs. You know, so I know for a metaphysical certainty what I'm dealing-with before I start trying to be "helpful."

There's nothing worse than being told to go to line 16 and remove the asterisk only to find that there is no line 16; but having someone yelling at you, "Of course there's a line 16!" like you're an idiot.

You'll be the first person any of us thinks-of if we need debugged.

Promise.

No I thought of the things like the top message on the Lunatics front page...

Thanks. It's a joint effort. Contributros list is at the bottom of the readme no one ever reads...

Oh dear, that sounded like a threat... ;)

Tbret.

We are doing our best to make the installer bullet proof.
I dont think its appropriate behaviour.

If i got something wrong i`m sorry.

This time I completely shut down and exited my Anti-Virus. Reran Lunatics install. The app_config.xml from Zalster survived the reinstall of Lunatics.

app_config.xml

<app_config>
<app>
<name>astropulse_v6</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
<app>
<name>setiathome_v7</name>
<max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.05</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

I tweaked with Zalster's app_info.xml and added a couple lines from Tbret's file. This should allow 1 AP at a time; or, two MB at a time. :-)

[EDIT]

SETI is crunching two WU's at a time!!!!! SUCCESS!!!!! :-)
