I finally found the reason why my i7/930 machine apparently died. The Channel A - DIMM 0 slot went south. This is the channel that apparently allows triple-channel RAM. I was able to use 2 of the 3 sticks, 4GB, to reconstitute the machine and it has been crunching for about a week. Still trying to ascertain why so many invalids, but for the most part it's up and running. Won't be able to upgrade it until next year. Haswell E on the wish list. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

The slot is bad or the memory module is bad? |

You may do better Cliff replacing that GTX460SE that always keeps throwing invalids (and has done so for as long as I can remember) before you consider replacing other hardware 1st. ;-) Cheers. |

It's the slot. When I put a stick in that slot, regardless which stick, the machine will not post. It attempts to do the self-test for about 3 seconds then shuts down, and immediately attempts to do a restart loop until I power down. As for the GTX460SE, that will be replaced by the GTX660SC on the other machine as soon as I can upgrade it. At the moment it is still doing more good work than bad. Your figures for that rig tell a totally different story Cliff. In progress (200) · Validation pending (81) · Validation inconclusive (67) · Valid (21) · Invalid (31) · Error (0) Cheers. |

You could try a few things on the GTX460SE. * speed up the fan so it runs at lower temperatures * bump up the voltage a little * downclock the card a little |
