How about a little Spanish poetry? Or should that be "Spanish Inquisition" against our climate?...

A "Petrolhead" as the next Climate Commissioner?

In 24 hours a Spanish oil 'baron' could be chosen as our European Commissioner on Climate...

Denial and corrupt politics in the extreme!

A very shrewd move. Need Petrolheads on-board if we are ever to wean the planet off oil.

Some of those that Deny the G.W problem whant to come and live down under. It's 1.37 am and the temp is 25.7 degrees C for the second time in a week . And to think summer is still 9 weeks away . These sort of temps don't normally occur till at least December it's going to be a killer summer this year and i do mean a killer , bush fires , heat exhaustion , I guess that's one way to solve the ageing population problem .

There will be a lot of early deaths in the nursing homes this year if the last week is anything to go by .

Hi Glenn, you'll have to convert 27.5 C into f for the philistine's like me who never did understand deg C. I can happily swap between imperial and metric length measurements but almost never use temperatures (except 68f 'standard')
I'm not a complete idiot, but, I'm working on it.
I have an opinion and I'm not afraid to use it

No problem mate if you have win 7 then the calculator will do unit conversions but just for you 25.7 c = 78.26 f

After opening the calculator click view then unit conversion , then change from Angle witch is default to temps

The formula is T°F = T°C * 9 / 5 + 32

Ones to remember maybe
32°F = 0°C Freezing
68°F = 20°C (your standard)
82°F ~ 28°C reverse the digits
98.6°F = 37.0°C blood
212°F = 100°C Boiling

Winter night

a simpler formula c*2+28=F the formula they teach at primary school here and it's accurate enough to get a idea . or use the complicated one if you wish to be accurate to the decimal point .

or just use the calculator or your mobile phone as they also have unit conversion

EDIT: Or you Americans can come into the 21st century and use the modern and far more esyer METRIC SYSTEM . You kicked the poms out then take on the French system of government but still hang on to the imperial system of units can't you guys make up your mind still what system you wish to be under as it was the French that used the metric system first ??

mm do we be French today or English i can't make up my mind ?? hehehehehe

Glenn,
Don't look at me.. I grew up knowing both systems. My father is very enlightened, and taught me the metric system. I had to know the 'US Customary/English Imperial' system to be able to function in local society, but I am vastly more comfortable with the sane, rational 'metric system'.

I mean, really... Just how much is a bushel, peck, rod, or gill, anyway? More importantly, *who cares*??

The 'Metric System'/'SI'/MKS system is a lot better. It makes sense. I also learned its close cousin, the CGS system. Sometimes, the size of its units is more convenient (such as 10^4 Gauss instead of 1 Tesla -- 1 Tesla is HUGE).

I wish they would take that monstrosity known as US Customary/British Imperial units out into the pasture and shoot it.

The papers (at least in the UK) often use F for hot temperatures and C for cold.

So if it's hot you get headlines like "82 degrees, scorcher!"
and if it's cold: "-5 degrees, cold snap!"
I suppose "23 degrees cold snap!" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

I once gave someone directions in ångströms.

"After 3287458914578 Ã…, turn left." etc.

The world of Dirty Fossils Corruptocracy...

"It's the Devil's excrement" - Where fossil fuels lurk, corruption creeps

When it comes to resource extraction and the political process — the issue is a global one. Have a look at some of the recent coal-[cor]ruption stories that have been breaking all around the world. ...

Australia In the state of New South Wales, an independent corruption inquiry has revealed questionable dealings between the founder of the Australian coal mining giant Whitehaven Coal, the owner of the Maules Creek mine and the state government. The sheer volume of political figures involved...

India The 'Coalgate' corruption scandal finally culminated in the Supreme Court of India ruling the cancellation of almost all coal allocations made since 1993... "It is expected that the Government will not deal with the natural resources that belong to the country as if they belong to a few individuals who can fritter them away at their sweet will."...

Indonesia Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resource Minister has recently been named as a suspect in a graft case...

China The ongoing anti-corruption investigation in China has revealed strong ties between state officials and the coal industry ... charged with corruption offences - has said of the province: "It has coal; the coal brought money; that brought corruption."...

US Since January 1990, a US federal agency has been leasing coal tracts in auctions that have only one bidder, and accepted bids at rock bottom prices...

... Together, these stories reveal the persistent corruptive power of the coal industry, with some very real casualties...

Meanwhile, Autumn has hit the UK with a "bang", and late:

UK set for driest September since records began

... The country received just 19.4mm of rain up to 28 September, about a fifth of the normal level.

It has also been one of the warmest Septembers in the past century.

But forecasters say the UK is set for a return to more normal conditions in early October - with cooler, wetter, and windier weather expected...

UK weather: Stormy conditions hit power supplies

Hundreds of homes in parts of the UK have been left without electricity after severe gales. Power providers in north-west England and Northern Ireland have been working to reconnect those affected. ...

... "This is a very typical autumnal set up, but as we have had an exceptionally dry September and the trees are still in leaf, wind and rain events like this can, and have, caused some disruption."

Northern Ireland Electricity said 1,000 customers were without power as of 14:00 BST - down from more than 7,000 earlier. ...

And today we've had squalls and thunderstorms(!) despite the temperatures normally being way too low for such things and all too late in the year in this expected climate...

Perhaps we need a new measure for how disruptive our new weather is...

Really all just 'natural'?...

Looks like the thunder and lightning has been noticed:

Lightning damage 'worst in 20 years' - Western Power

... About 100 homes are still cut off after 12 hours of electrical storms over Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and the Swansea area. At its height 1,600 properties were hit. The company expects all homes will be reconnected by 19:00 BST.

Scottish Power said heavy rain was a factor in the loss of power to hundreds of homes, mostly in Gwynedd.

A fallen tree and landslip also blocked the A465...
