There are American "advisers" (Green Berets) with the Kurds. This is now a "I do not want any Damn Dien Bien Phu." situation. The Kurds will have to do the ground work though.

Ahh good old American air power. If they want they can bomb ISIS back to the stone age. And they certainly can lay waste to the advancing ISIS troops.

BBC - US launches Iraq militant air strike

The US says it has launched an air strike against militants from the Islamic State (IS) group in Iraq.

The Pentagon said American aircraft attacked artillery that was being used in northern Iraq against Kurdish forces defending the city of Irbil.

'Carpet' Bombing depends where ISIS is.
After a carpet bombing ISIL will no longer be.

Anyway US can't cut an run. Bombs away, two 500 pound laser bombs dropped on an ISIL forward artillery position.

Hardly, at best Saddam would have delayed this for another few years. But Saddam would have died at some point, his regime would have collapsed and this mess would have come up then.

That is one thing that no one can be sure of. What would have happened is that the many 1000's that died would not have...

...then the possibility of someone turning it around...

That's with only 4 bombs. The Kurds can do the ground work if US give them the tools. The problem with that is Turkey is in a low level war with the Kurds who live in Turkey. Turkey is a waste as a NATO member though so screw them. US have to put our money on winners like South Korea and let losers like South Vietnam get what they deserve.

Yes we have been warned.

ISIS terrorists, were in Syria, now Iraq. ISIS, are very dangerous, and must be stopped. They drive fancy cars, are loaded with weapons. They KILL, in cold blood. They rape woman. They are worse than the Taliban, and Al-Qaeda.

Not sure if their arms come from Iran, Russia? They need to be wiped off the face of the earth. Bomb, Bombs, away.

Perhaps, but make no mistake. Under Saddam 20% of the Iraqi population ran the country and repressed the other 80%. That situation is not stable nor will it last forever. At some point, Saddam or his son would have faced with uprisings and they would have been cast down. Maybe during the Arab spring, maybe after instability in Syria had spread to Iraq. This was inevitable.

Hindsight is always better. If I felt it were essential to go in and topple Saddam, I would have occupied with a 600,000 man army and shot looters on sight,

I would have kept the Iraqi Army and police forces intact -down to and including the rank of Colonel. I would have partitioned the country as follows:

Kurdistan in the North. The Marsh area becomes part of Iran, And a New Iraq (mostly Sunni) from what was left.

Now it appears that Iraq or a good part of it will be forming the new Caliphate when Syria falls as well.
