Hi Akshansh :) Welcome to the SETI boards. It's exciting isn't it :) Will try to be back before my edit button disappears with a link to a page which will tell you about the data results... hopefully back in a minute. :)

Edit: Okay found something - but not what I was originally looking for.

Individual data points have no meaning unless the same can be observed over multiple observations at the same pixel in space and at different times.


I think what that is trying to say is don't get too excited... but will try find something more informative for you :)

could someone say me where is the border to high interist on triple counts or has it not much to do with it please? the range seem to be very high. i remember me, the border is 10,00. how sad ;)

if its is the distance to the target it seem to me that the teleskope searched on an area without stars in the range of our sight.

I hate to put a downer on your enthusiasm, but nearly every work unit will contain one or more pulse, spike or triplet that may, or may not, be a signal from ET. What happens next is all the results from a particular area of the sky are compared with each other, over a period of time, and then the pattern analysed to see if there is any real "strange" signal that can't be explained by it being anything other than ET's phone call

A pulse must have a score of 1.0 to be sent back as a possibly interesting signal in your result file. The peak power varies a lot depending on which bandwidth is being examined, so the score is what matters for a pulse. The score is calculated by dividing the calculated Signal to Noise Ratio by what it would be for pure white noise with an adjustment based on the threshold specified in the workunit header.

However, for a spike or triplet the peak power is the thing to watch, but for a gaussian the fit is most important (and lower values are better).

I am very new to the SETI program and just started a few weeks ago. The screen saver comes on and crunches the date and give a graphic representation. It all looks random, each individual line a different height, so, I'm assuming that's "noise." However, last night and today, I noticed that the graphic on some of the signals were the same height, in peaks and dips from back to front, not random at all. This was for a particular array at a particular time. Then it's next job it went to a different time and went back to regular sporadic pattern. Should I get excited at all or this this normal? The data is for Area1bo March 7, 2009 at 15:08:00 to 14:08:45 Beam 4 POI 1 whatever that means. Anyway, sorry for being such a newb.

Hi Darin :) Welcome to the boards :) It sounds like you're describing what's called a triplet. If you haven't already and have a moment - take a quick read through the earlier posts in this thread. If I remember correctly, there are some good explanations of what SETI is searching for - and triplets is one, but a whole mess of other stuff all needs factoring in too :)
